i was thinking of getting either the HKS Hiper Damper 2 or Tein Super Drift Coilovers... i plan on making my car a track/driftish/ street car.. yes i know very unreliable as a street car then but w/e...... ok but im looking for confot of driving.. my current stock suspension is shot and i am saving up for a new one

I think you should just get some koni yellows with aftermarket springs for your street driving, and when you go to the track switch out to your coils. There's no point in spending that much money on coils just to fuck them up on the street. Just my $0.02.

not sure about tein on fd's....but ive ran tein on hondas before ..the ss, and the flex coilovers....nice ass products....cant say anything about hks....never ran or road on them before... :dunno:

In my opinion coilovers ride better and fit better than most shock/spring combos. Its the better way to go if you can afford it. Remember these cars are old and the rubber upper mounts and spring isolators should be replaced along with the shocks and springs. By the time you add all that up you might as well just get coilovers. Konis and Tockicos are more generic and designed to fit many cars.

they sell the tein one on rx7 store... i mean i dont want to have it as a daily driver and have an unconfrtable ride because now since iv been riding on blown shocks for over a year now iv been getting pissed off every time i go over a small bump and scrap the front bumper

anyway, i have tein flexes but i don't think they're meant for drifting.. i also agree with buying a real coilover setup rather than spring/shock combo.
I like my tein flexes, the ride isn't as harsh as the ss and the spring rate is 10F 8R

Personally I am going Tein Flex. There is a new Mono Flex out by Tein also...

all of my 240 drifting buddies swear by tiens. cheaper than the hks too, and i havnt heard much about them besides their drag coilovers. i would go tien.

i just dont want to get the tien drifts and then have my back acken from daily driving suspension

am i the only one that has heard of stress fractures on tein suspension?

It's a fancy term for "breaking". Anyway the proper term would be "fatigue failure" or "cracking due to fatigue". If it were "stress fractures" it would break on the 1st big bump. Fatigue comes after several big bumps. Eventually it makes a flexible or bendable material seem like a brittle one. Like when you take a thick steel wire and bend it back and forth until it snaps.

Coilovers tend to be stiffer.

As for Koni Yellows being generic...ehhhhhhhh hmmmmm, I guess that's why most SCCA racers run them? You are aware each shock for whatever car is valved differently?

There are shock dynos of Koni Yellow out damping many of the "baller" JDM suspensions on the market. Cool part is, if you speak to Lee Grimes at Koni USA, he shock dynos any shock for free, non-biased. Same with one of the guys I know on a Honda forum who works for Eibach. :icon_tup:

But in your situation good struts(Koni Yellows) with good springs is your best bet. If you can't afford the Yellows, my next suggestion is KYB AGX.

I have to say of the JDM brands out there, TEIN is pretty good when it comes to rebuilds or warranty claims, as for other JDM brands I can't say the same.
