Will these wheels work with some Konis and RB springs?
 

I'm looking to buy these rims:

I just got a set of Koni yellows with some RB springs. Will these work with what I've got? I'm kinda in the dark about this wheel fitment thing and I was kinda confused by the spreadsheet. Supposedly the Rims in the thread have a 50 offset.

The RB springs drop the front .75" and the reat 1.5". I really like the rims but the spreadshieet in the sticky says that I'll be in the negative on the inside for the rear tires. Please somebody tell me that is wrong or I misread the spreadsheet.

Are you planning to get rims like those, or those in that thread (as it said they are sold).

The rims will fit fine. However, the Racing Beat springs are known for rubbing problems. I would suggest a different set of springs.

I do concur with Mahjik though, the RB springs should be nicknamed "rubbers".

What offset should I choose to combat the rubbing?

A +50 offset is fine, its the RB springs that are the problem.

So nothing I can do to stop the rub?

The rubbing is the tire hitting the fender liner, not the fender lip. To some extent, this will happen anytime you lower an FD. But the RB springs are really soft and cause a bigger problem with this than other springs. You might want to consider the Eibach springs instead.

Are the Racing Beat springs firmer than my stock Touring Springs? I thought they were.

The problem is they are lower, but they are only about a 7% increase in spring rate. There is less travel but not much increase in strength, that's the problem.

Ok here is what I'm thinking:

I found the BBS RX 17 X 8 front 17 X 9 rear at the TireRack. Seems like a good price: 2314 + shipping.

How would those work with some Kumho Ecsta SPTs sporting 225/45 up front and 245/40 in the back?

I'm starting to get the hang of this stuff. Would the offset be right for what I'm thinking of doing ( assuming I get the Eibach Springs).

Ugh, Ecsta SPTS? Tires are the most important part of the car....don't cheap out.

What are they listing the offset as for the wheels?

I would suggest a 235 Front and a 255 Rear.

Front offset is +40, Back is +42.

And correction, they're BBS RGR wheels.

What do you guys like better the black diamond finish or the bright silver? My car is my Avatar.

By the way, the Kumho Ecsta SPT list just as high in the grip department as any of the best performers. Also their treadwear is the best. It was the best all around tire for in my comparison chart and I looked at a lot of tires. The price just tipped the scales in their favor heavily. Is there something I should know about them?

If not those then what would you guys recommend?

BTW, I'm going to run my stock rims with some Gumball Hoosiers for the track.

You'll have to roll the front fenders for sure.

If you don't want to roll the fenders, you'll need something with a +45 to a +50 offset. Then about the largest tire you'll want up front would be a 235 or a 245 at most (this is assuming you will be keeping the car lowered).

What charts are you looking at? Those weren't the exact model I was thinking of but they are still much grippier street tires out there.

I guess it depends on how you care to drive on the street. The Kumho MX and Falken RT-615 are only slightly more and are much grippier tires. Shorter treadlife obviously.

Yeah, I'm weighing treadwear a little heavier because I'm going to have the Hoosiers for the track and I don't want to keep replacing my street tires.

What about sidewall height?

You 'could' use the lower offset with some smaller tires, say a 205 stretched on your 8". That would reduce your sidewall on the side but you should still roll your fenders. Keep in mind that using stretched tires is less than ideal if you ever plan to run AutoX or Road Racing events.

Basically, you need to make up your mind:

You either:

A. Want to do it right
B. Keep trying to find ways around doing it right

I can't seem to find any wheels that I like with the right width and offsets. I'm gonna have to roll the fenders. How expensive is that? I'm gonna have the car in the body shop anyway so I'll have them do it then.

Does anybody know what I should tell them as far as how far to roll them? How about what something like that should cost?

For just the front, it shouldn't be more than $50 tops. If you do the front and rear, anything over $100 would be robbery. ;)

As far as how much to roll back, that depends on you. The more you roll back, most likely the more your paint will chip on the edge. I had mine fronts hammered back so they are pretty much flat. It did chip up the paint but the car will eventually be repainted.

but i dont undetrstand i know people who ran in the 38-40 in front on 8 inch rim/ff and it still cleared ...alot of info on the forums are iffy/depends at times i guess

Here's some examples of low offset cars . . . .

1) 18x9+29 front with 18x10+35 rear
2) 18x10.5+43 all around
3) 17x9+22 front with 18x10??? rear
4) 17x9+35 front with 17x10+35 rear

These cars have streched tires, high spring rates/coilovers, rolled fenders, and other mods. I guess it just depends on how much money you want to spend and how comfortable you want your ride to be on the street.
