It depends what overall wheel+tire diameter you want.

The maximum recommended tire widths for those wheels (assuming Bridgestone S-03s) in RX-7 wheel+tire diameters:

17x7: 225/45 17

17x8.5: 255/40 17

It is not ideal to run tires that wide on those wheel sizes but you asked for the maximums.

I have 235/45/17 ADVAN A032 on 17x7 wheel. dont very well. this also depend on the tires too some tire are just wider than other tires

You plan on drifting on a 275 in the back?

I used to run a 245/45/17 on my 7" inch rims.

nah..i dont plan on drifting with 275s. Drifting is bad ass...i love my initial D, and my D-1's and all....its just that drifting isnt something that can be done that often (atleast not legally). Just looking for the widest tire i can get...i want someone to go f*ck those tires are wide as hell!
:D

Get wider wheels and then you'll get that reaction. 7" wheels are sort of on the skinny side. Especially when they are 17's. Go for 9 to 9.5 inch wide wheels in the rear with 255's or 265's on them.

If the price is an issue, there's always stamp collecting and bird watching. They are much cheaper hobbies to be into. ;)
