For rebuild kit and or rebuilt calipers check out mazdatrix Front Brakes, Rotors, Hubs, Calipers 4 pistons rebuild kit : Cart Price Check Part:49-2400-FB05 |
Depending on what is needed here's a few options - '93:
Quirk Auto (OEM) Front-FB05-49-240 Overhaul Kit RX7 $35.20 $23.94 Rear-FDY1-26-46Z Rear Brake Caliper Kit $99.38 $67.58 Atkins has the OEM in stock. RockAuto Front-$4.04/$4.68 p/wheel Rear-$2.15/$11.88 p/wheel |
And I believe Rock Auto sells rebuilt calipers if you don't want to deal with the hassle of rebuilding them yourself
|
they do, for about $70 per 4 piston caliper, plus $40 core.

Front Caliper O-Ring Seals.
Hello All.
I am in the process of rebuilding my calipers. Has anyone done a complete tear-down on the front calipers and replaced the o-rings between the 2 half's? I am having a hard time finding replacement seals. If any one has located a supply of know where to get them, please share the info. It would be greatly appreciated. Regards. |

Regards. at this point you have two options, buy a rebuilt caliper, or measure the O ring, and find a place that sells O rings. |
You'll probably want to measure them then look on mcmaster for an equivalent o-ring in the correct material.
Maybe also contact Ronin Speedworks since they do the old Roger Mandeville trick of adding a spacer in between the caliper halves so you can run a thicker rotor. This of course requires new o-rings. |
Thanks for the feed back guys.
I did some digging on Rock Auto's website and found the caliper rebuild kit, also found the pad hardware kit for around $10.00 that Mazda graciously sells with their brake pads for $100.00. The Caliper kit contains the inner transfer seals that I have been looking for, it comes with the boots/ retainer springs and 4 inner piston seals for a complete rebuild. The same kit they use to rebuild your calipers when you do a core exchange. To answer your question Tom U. I am in the process of doing a brake job, also turned into a coil-over install among other things. installed some DBA T3 Rotors and decided to get my calipers powder coated. The Mazda work shop manual tells you if you split the caliper it is unusable, don't believe the BS. Centric Brakes makes the caliper rebuild kit for $4.00 a caliper, $8.00 for the front pair, Rock Auto charges around $80.00 for a rebuilt caliper which uses the same kit, the math is in my favor to rebuild my own with the kit. Link provided. https://www.rockauto.com/?carcode=1192496&parttype=1720 Hope this helps anyone who wants to Powder coat their Front calipers in the future. Regards. |
Please report back about the how well the rebuild kit worked out. For Miatas, the non-Mazda-sourced seals don't fit well and wind up leaking. Let's see how it is for the FD.
Mazdatrix and Atkins has the rebuild kit listed for $37.50 btw... Not sure if that differs from what you bought. https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/8...05-49-240.html http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=49-2400-FB05 |
Sure thing, will do. Should have it by Thursday. Hopefully there will be no sealing issues. Will post some pics.

Hi All, I was finally able to reassemble the calipers . I have attached some pics I took while rebuilding them. I purchased a Beck & Arnley Kit that came with 4 new pins that are too short plus all the brake pad springs which did work. The seal kit is on point, got it primarily for the small transfer seal that was included with it. If you have any questions, hit me up.
Best Regards. Drew. |

A few more pics. This is what they looked like after sand blasting and before tear down.

Hi All.
Sorry for the delay in updating this post. Just wanted to let everyone know that I was finally able to finish up my brakes this weekend, so far it is a success, no leaks between the front calipers after splitting them open and replacing the inner o-ring seal. The brakes have been bled and the system is leak free and holding pressure without issue. If anyone has questions about the kits I used or anything else, feel free to send a message. Best Regards. Drew. |
Any trick to pull out the pistons? I’ve used compressed air and they all have popped out but can’t pull them out of the caliper completely. Thinking of snap ring pliers lol
|
They should shoot out under pressure. What pressure were you using
I guess you could try a small rubber strap wrench if there's enough of the piston to grab onto |
Using compressed air, I like to have a couple pieces of varying thicknesses of wood between the opposing pistons, so there is no chance of them popping out at speed and incurring damage. It also ensures they all come out evenly and only fingers are needed to wiggle them out of the bores when the last strip of wood is removed.
Tip: turn down the reg too, unless you like brake fluid baths! |
