whats the widest tire that will fit in the back of an fc?

up to 285/30 if yo have the right offset. It all comes down the wheel width and offset. But the 285 can be run.

different question. what is the diameter of the lug on an fc? also, will a 9.5 inch tire fit up front?

No way a 9.5" will fit up front unless you run some stupid hipari on it...

Ted...while doing some searching i've come across numerous negative post towards Hipari tire. I want to know where your opinion comes from. It seems to me you dislike it due to the "drift trend" which is huge in your area right now.

The reson i bring back this old thread is because today while shopping at some of the japanese book stores i came across the newest REVspeed magazine and instantly was reminded of you. Its known to be one of the best technical motorsports magazines internationally and i'm not talking drift. Anyway, they just did a test on wheel size using 3 diffrent widths, same tires.

The first set they used would be what you would recomend. 235/40-18 on a 18x7.5 wheel.
The track times came out to be 1'03.369

2nd set 235/40-18 on a 18x8.5 wheel.
The track times 1' 03.103

3rd and final set was 235/40-18 on a 18x9.5 wheel.
The track times 1'02.680

There was alot of other data included such as temps on the inside, center and middle of all 4 tires but lets not get too deep into that. This shows clearly that everything isn't about the biggest contact patch. Hipari has alot of great effects and is used in more motor sports then just drifting. On street tires, hipari aids alot in making the sidewalls stiffer which we all know effects the handling of a car by alot. If it didn't we'd all be circuit racing on drag radials.

I just noticed your opinion on Hipari was a very strong one but with no real reson behind it. I may not post often and thats because i choose not to bicker and argue. This isn't a post against you, just something i thought i could clear up with the help of REVspeed.

I'll chime in here... sure it does effect the handling (response) of the tire, but it cannot change the ultimate grip level of the tire, that is controlled by tire compound. yeah I guess I could believe the minor change in contact patch width will have some effect on laptimes. what I'd like to see would have been a 265 to 285 wide tire of the same sidewall height and tire compound on that same 9.5 wide wheel, it would have an even better lap time, correct? I dont think many guys running hipari style are trying to get the most from their setup, its mostly for looks... some of them run horribly poor tires for a spirited driving and thats even more laughable.

Your totally right. And most people that are using hipari don't run good tires or strech 225s on 9.5 but thats all in good reson as well. Yes it looks nice, but at the same time with a cheaper tire and hipari, you stiffen up the jelly softside walls, and you are able to play around with low speed dirfting better and it makes everything more predictable. If these same entry level drifters were to run a larger contact patch with better compounds the entry speeds would have to be faster. Not good for practice....they generally aren't grippers ether.

A 265 or 285 wheel with nice sidewalls would deff. have taken the 9.5 235/40s but remeber we drive rx7s and...

Hipari doesn't seem so stupid anymore eh :bigthumb:
