wheel hop/trailing arm ?
 

hey every1,
I havent put my car on the drag strip yet, but i have a few areas of favorable asphalt by my house. I started from a roll, and i got some pretty bad wheel hop. Ive been searching some, and it looks like an M2 trailing arm kit is pretty much the best answer (ive got tokicko shocks and im getting an eibach pro-kit very soon)
plmk if theres nething else that i could do to fix my wheel hop.

I thought it fixed it but just increased it's tolerence, so it takes more RPM's for wheel hop now but does not eliminate it. Similar to Pettit's "launch kit street".

Pettit's "launch kit pro" will eliminate it but at the cost of powertrain vibration into the chassis.

Well, my car rides rough enough....im not too sure id want to go w/ a pettit kit. Would the M2 kit pretty much eliminate it as long as i dont launch like a crazy bastard?

I'm getting some serious wheel hop myself when I launch the car around 3k rpms. My mods are in my sig, but I'm also planning on getting the trail arms/toe links from M2.

Without the M2 kit I had wheel hop at 3500rpm
With the M2 kit I had wheel hop at 4500rpm or more. Pettit makes a sport kit that's similar.

Those are not exact numbers but just to explain better on what to expect.

I just put the M2 trailing arms in, and it didn't seem to help out very much. I would like to know how to dissable the trac. control, im assuming thats lending a hand in the wheel hop.

There is no stock traction control, at least on U.S. model FDs. You might benefit from some toe links as well. And perhaps some new pillow ball bushings depending on what (if anything) is loose on your suspension. Jack up a rear corner and try to muscle the wheel around. If you can move it around, you have some bad bushings somewhere. Both the pillow balls and the toe links were worn on my car, so I replaced them both.

The pillow balls are Mazda-only parts (no upgrades since they are already solid bushings). For toe links, M2 and Battle Version make some replacements. The rod ends on my M2 links wore out after a while, so I replaced them with QA-1 rod ends from Jeg's. The part number are XML-10 and XMR-10, you need two of each (left and right hand threads is the difference between the two).

I have toe links and trailing arms from Pettit and hardley ever get wheel hop. With the stock set up i would get real bad wheel hop.

So there's no proven way to cure wheel hop?

There is no silver bullet solution, but toe links and trailing arms with rod ends instead of rubber bushings help. Stiff diff mounts have been said to help as well. Spring stiffness makes a difference, too. I had zero hop with 250 lbs/in rear springs, but I can get a little hop woth 350 springs in the rear now. Tires and wheels and probably suspension alignment also have an effect.

Is the track-pro launch kit the one you have? I'm thinking about getting this myself. The price looks good, and based on what it says, it looks like it will solve much of the problem.

I have the street kit which is basically just trailing arms. The track kit also has solid diff mounts and from what I hear will introduce vibration into the car.

I think you really have to get both the trailing arms AND toe links to pretty much kill the wheel hop. I still get some everynow and they but I'm running over 400rwhp

Yeah, the street one was what I was looking at. Sorry I didn't specify that. My goal for the FD is to make 400rwhp, so if this kit is doing you good at numbers above that, I should be fine. SOME wheel hop is expected, but I shouldn't be getting this much at my current power level. If you could let me know what your suspension setup is, including what tires/rims you are using, it would be great. What did the kit come with? My current setup is in my sig so far, and as I said, I'm looking at the street kit...possibly even 450 flywheel hp.

There is a silver bullet, it's called M/T ET Streets. If you are going to drag on a regular basis do your car a favor and buy Streets. Carl Byck

Im not sure if its j/ trailing arms in my case....i have a bad boost pattern (10-6-5) and im taking off from a roll in 1st and getting wheel hop....anyone got ideas on this?

ET Streets are 165-175 at summit, and they will eliminate the wheel hop. Also they are less of a shock on your drivetrain. They may however brake your axles if your making over 400ftlbs of torque :)

anybody know whats up w/ my car? The stock suspension has 92k miles on it xcept for the new tokico shocks

The ET street are only going to help you on the drag strip. They are basically slicks with one groove down the middle. They wont help on the street since you wont be driving them all the time.

I used to get real bad hop, even when I went into 2nd I'd get bad hop

i have m2 traling arms toe links and the set of nylon bushings and the nylon diff bushing. no wheel hop at all until i broke my ppf now the wheel hop is worse than ever

How much power were you making when the PPF went? I'm planning on upgrading mine as well.

Are you saying you broke the ppf and have bad wheel hop with the broken ppf OR you replaced it and still have bad wheel hope?

If you replaced it maybe its just not tight enough and allowing for just a small amount of movement
