Wheel fitment for FC and FD
 

I am looking at getting a new set of wheels for my FC, but soon I am hoping to get a FD. So I would like to try and find a wheel that will fit both cars. I am looking to get a max of 17" wheel and some where between a 7" and 8". Maybe even an 8.5". ( I know stock fds are 8", but I would be willing to make a sacrfice) IS ti possible to find a wheel to fit both?

Would a 17x7.5 with 31mm work? or a 17x8.5 with either a 25, 31, or 37mm offset?

Here are a few 17x7s 30,36 or 42 or 17x8s 24,30.36. or 42

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't suggest getting smaller than stock FD(8") widths if you plan on putting it on a FD some day, you will just end up getting wider ones later.

I believe spacers(1" I think) will allow you to put fd size wheels on a 5 lug FC.( you can find the right spacers by searching its been posted)

Here's an idea:

don't buy wheels right now and save your money until you get the FD.

BTW, that's not a good mindset to have as an FD owner -- it's not a car you can cut corners in and get away with it....

Damnit! Thats not what I wanted to hear! No actually I was thinking it over last night and thought it would be best to atleast get 17x8s.

How many of you like or hate have two different wheel sizes like smaller in front bigger in rear?

Alright I have decided on the wheels, Advan TCII's 17x8.5 front and rear (if they will fit) I have a sheet that I got when I was over in Japan and it say that the FCs are 17x8.5 w/31mm offest and the FDs are 17x8.5 w/37mm offset and it has an * by 31mm.

Would the 31mm require spacers to fit? And would the 37mm offset fit the FC?

I really don't understand why you are trying to compromise on a wheel setup for two completely different cars.

8.5 +37 is pretty low for an FD, but it will work. Pretty skinny though, especially at the rear. And NO, a spacer isn't going to help as it would push the wheels in the wrong direction.....

I don't know about FC fitments.

EDIT: Jesus, I just looked up the cost on those -- about $2200-2300 a set? That's a hell of a lot of money to spend on wheels that don't offer much of a handling improvement over stock....

The reason I guess I am comproming is because I will hopefully get an FD soon, or another car. So I am trying to find a wheel that will fit which ever car I get next. I do not want to by a set and then like 2 weeks like sell them for half the cost because they will not fit the car I want to put them on. I can auctually get the a bit cheaper from a friend of mine, and not have to wait 2-3 months for them.

I am also taking wheel size in consideration becasue of the cost of bigger tires.

That's what is confusing me? If you are trying to save up for another car, why the hell would you be spending $2000 on wheels for a temporary car? It doesn't make any sense.

Save the money for the next car you want. Then decide/save for upgrade for it.

No its not that I am saving for another car, its just I may sell my FC at anytime. If I see something in a week, a month, a year I will buy it.

I think the closest you'll get is 17x8+35 up front.

Hmmm, I am trying to figure out how the wheel sizes work. Let me give this a shot and let me know if I am correct.

As the wheel size (width) increases the wheel offset gets smaller? There has to be some type of formula to this, or how do you guys know that they will fit or not?

If you go with the best FD wheel fitment, you'll need spacers and fender flares to fit an FC. If you go with the best FC fitment, it won't fit an FD. If you compromise, you can get good fitment on the FC and crappy FD fitment.

Wheel width has NOTHING to do with wheel offset. Read the wheel tech section on www.tirerack.com

The stock wheel offset for the FD is +50. Ideally, ANY wheel you bought would have that offset. But that doesn't happen, so we make compromises and set a practical limit on how low of an offset you can use with each wheel width to avoid hitting the fenders.

theres a silver fd in my town with about 30k miles on it. I sort of know the owner. It was a weekend car only. Lived mostly in the garage

Get a 17x9 +45 and a 17x10 +50. Those are good sizes for an FD. Then run a 20mm bolt on spacer for the FC and roll the fenders. It'll be a tight fit, but it should work with the right camber and tire sizes.

What about 1/2 sizes? The TCII are only available in half sizes... In the JDM brochure I have Advan says front 17x8.5 37mm and rear 17x9.5 35mm
