Wheel bearing life
 

For the 2nd time, I have a bad wheel bearing.

I don't think this is related to my front brake job, but it might be.

I am hearing the exact same "tick tick tick" when I am turning right hard enough to transfer weight to the left side.

What has been the life you guys have gotten out of your front wheen bearing assemblies?

I don't personally know of anyone wearing out a front wheel bearing. My car has 113,000 miles and has done over 50 competition events on race rubber over the past couple years and I have yet to wear out a wheel bearing.

If the wheel bearings were serviced or repacked with grease recently then the spindle nut may not be tightened properly causing the bearings to self destruct.

if u replaced, i think you have to make sure the bearings are packed with greese correctly.

You can't meerly take your finger and smoother greese around the bearing... u need to get an acutal packer and then make sure it get to every single bit of the beaing

if u did that, that i would say you have bad luck

1) I was told that you can't replace individual bearings on our cars (front wheels).

About 3 months ago, I had a bearing problem. I ordered a new front wheel bearing assembly (GA5S-26-15XA)

which is the piece that has the tire studs and houses the bearings.

Well, now I have that noise again, just after the front break job. It happens when turning right, if I turn the wheel over enough, but not necessarily at speed.

are you sure you got the torque on the big nut that holds the hub to the spindle correct?

if it isn't torqued properly... u wil get a clicking sound... THe factory service manual suggests that you use a spring pull scare, hook that to the wheel stud and then tighten the big NUT until you get certain amount of resistance.

I'm not sure what the vales for the FD are. Since i didn't bother to download the FD manual. I have FC.

check that before assuming that your bearings went down the toilet

But I didn't remove that big nut.

if you didn't remove that retaining nut, how the hell did you get your old hub off then install the new hub?

there is also a retaining pin/clip that goes over the nut so that the nut won't back out over time

I never removed the hub originally, someone else did. It has been 100% since then.

Anyways, I am now 99.999999% sure the issue is related to my front brake job. I removed the wheel an hour ago, inspected, and discovered that the brake like spring clip is gone, the one that holds where the line/metal connection is. I think this is the culprit!

Now, is this a standard part? It seems to be identical whether for brake line, ABS sensor line or ebrake line. Just go to any parts store or Mazda specific?

That was it. Got 2 of the 3 dollar "hose" clips at the dealer. Problem solved. Of course I jumped the gun and now have another bearing/hub :)
