Whats the best tires for 17x8 / 17x9 +35

hey guys i'm getting a set of 5zigen fno1r-c's with 17x8 up front and 17x9 in rear with +35 offset all around. I'm thinking 225/45/17 in front and 255/40/17 in back. I also have kyb agx's with ground control coilover kit as suspensions. Which tires do you guys suggest for this setup? i'm looking for mainly performance wise and money is not that much of a issue unless its like unreasonable. i've been looking at falken azenis RT 615s.

***I don't have any hand on experience with the following tires***

Just from what've seen at the local auto X (not ruled by SCCA or Nasa). The Falken Azenis RT615 are the street tires of choice at the local auto X; however most guys don't like them in the rain (or don't suggest them for rainy\snowy days). On the other hand, the Kumho Ecsta MX doesn't perform (at least that's what I've noticed, remember I don't have any experience with them) as good as the Falken Azenis RT 615; however those drivers that use them as street tires don't complain about them on rainy days.

Hope this helps you out (somehow). When I get my rims, I will probably go with the Ecsta MX.

I am getting BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 in these sizes for my Enkeis, whenever the wheels ship from Japan. I also have a similar setup, with the KYB's but not the coilovers, just RB springs. The KDW 2's seem to be getting rave reviews for both wet & dry grip, and I like the funky tread pattern.

I'll let you know what I think if the wheels ever actually show up...

thx guys for the input, also i've been wondering, is +25 offset better in the front or +35 offset with 17x8s? which will fit better with 225/45/17s?

you will probably need a small spacer in the fronts with ground control sleeves and a +35mm offset on a 8" rim.

+25 would give you more room to the strut / spring.

you can probably get away with a 235 up front on a 17x8 +35.
I did, I had Tein Flex.
pics on my homepage in the early albums, the 17x8 and 17x9 wheels were all +35 offset and were flat black.
fit damn well under stock bodywork and 235 fronts and 255 rears.
:)
aaaaah, I love those wheels

you will probably like the new azenis over the kumho mx.
I have the MXs now ans theyre heavy, pretty sticky but need to be rebalanced over time because they just arent as well made as the BFG KD and probably the azenis are nicely made (I had the old design azenis on another car and loved 'em)

hmmm so should i get +35 with 235/45/17 or +25 with 225/45/17? which setup would be better?

the 225 tire will give you the most clearance.
the +25 wheel will push the wheel and tire outward more to the fender lip.

if I was gonna run a +35 wheel, I would run a 235 tire

but on a +25 wheel I would run a 225 tire

not much of a difference though.

I like the 235 fronts and 255 rears on +35 front and back, 17x8 front and 17x9 rear on FCs.

if youre gonna run a 275 out back on that +35 wheel, you should look into wider front fenders to run a 17x8 +25 or a 17x9 +15 and a 255 tire up front

Pat McGroin 06-23-06 01:59 PM

Look into running a 235/40 in the front instead of 235/45, it'll give you a little more fender clearance on the top if need be.

I an rumming 225/45 inthe front with a 17 by 8 +35 and it has plenty of room for a 235. I am even thinking about buying a crappy used 245/40 just to see the clearance, it looks like it has the room.

By the way I am running Ground Controls with Koni yellows.

Since you have used both of them, how well does the azenis compare to the MX on rainy days? Any experience with the BFG KD?
