What is a "streetable" fender to hub height? (FD3S)
 

Hey guys. I just installed a set of Tein Flex Z's (8k front/7k rear springs).

The stock settings set the car pretty low. I have a feeling these will scrape everywhere. I just wanted to see what you guys are setting your fender to hub heights at and how you're faring around the city with that setting.

I would say ~25" from ground, ~12.5" from hub is near the low end of "streetable".

25.25 min up front is what works for me
25 has me rubbing the front 99 lip on every single frickin driveway

I am at 25.25" front as well (used lowest Ohlins recommended height).

Doesn't seem that low, but I can pull into the garage without scraping the R1 front lip.



RX-8 I ignored the Ohlins instructions (it handles well enough already) and dumped it as low as it would go.
Because of the shorter overhangs it doesn't scrape front really anywhere, it just gets high centered because of the long wheelbase and you need a push.

I still consider RX-8 streetable since I can usually spot the entrances and speed humps it will get high centered on... and speed up so I throw sparks instead of getting high centered.

So be careful who you ask what is "streetable" :lol:

Thanks for the advice guys. The "stock" settings had me at a little under 25". My LS1 hangs kinda low along with the long tube headers. I think I may go somewhere in the 25.25-26.00" range.

Yeah, its always my R1 front lip that scrapes when I do get a scrape on the FD- so you might not have to raise your ride height for the V8 stuff.

I have my JIC Magic FLT-A2's at pretty much the highest setting. About 25.5" front and 25.5" rear. I clear everything so far in the Netherlands since they LOVE crazy speed bumps. My issue used to be the long tubes. Went to Sikky mid length and have not had an issue since.

There are issues with the mid lengths though. Very thin wall tubing(18GA I think), sugaring on the welds and the #2 tube interferes with the halfspec a/c setup. I mentioned all this to them but never heard back.

Ah, I see. I will give 25.5" a try. I love the sound of the longtubes. Did the sound change at all with the mid-lengths?

(side note: I bet it's a pain in the ass to use our stupid imperial measurement system:lol::lol:)

I cannot say honestly as I went to a full dual 2.5" setup in the process over a single 3". It does seem to sound a little different than many of the other LSx that I've heard but I still like it. Your x-pipe design and location would probably have a bigger influence on the sound.

I'm actually from Minnesota but been outside the continental US since 2006. I'm used to both systems. I really wish we (US) would just swap to metric. It's about as likely as the Brits moving to the "correct" side of the road. :-p
