What size would you recommend for 17x8.5 front and 17x9.5 rear??

Wondering what would be a optimal size for 8.5 front 9.5 rear??

I was thinking 245/40/17 front and 275/35/17 rear??

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

those are perfect widths in my opinion.... specially if you can get 275 with a 35 profile
my car as 245/45/17 and and 285/40/17 and the sidewall is too thick in my opinion. i dont think there are many makers that offer that width with 35 profile though

good luck with that phil(and check your pm :) )

275 on my 10" are a bit "beefy" in back with TS-1's. Depending on your style you may want 265/35 in back

Herblenny 12-10-04 09:23 AM

I wanted to go with S-03 and found out that they don't make it in 275/35 in 17 inch.

Now I'm thinking about 255/40/17 front and 265/40/17 rear?? what do you guys think about this size.. I would really like to go with S-03s..

ptrhahn 12-10-04 09:31 AM

I'd use a 265/40/17 rear, with a 245/40/17 front on those rims. Both sizes are abailable in S03's, correct?

Yes, they are both available for that size. how do you like the feel of the car with that set up?? I'm leaning that direction.. or 235/45/17, which would have the same diameter as 265/40/17.

ptrhahn 12-10-04 09:38 AM

I'm running 255 and 275 in 18" sizes on my car... just 10 mm difference on each end from the setup I suggested. I think it's perfect. Don't fret over the different diameters, the front actually works better with a shorter tire, because clearances are so tight.

If you had a 9" wheel up front, then i'd suggest the 255/40, but 8.5 will be happier w/ the 245/40

I think Goodfella runs the 245/265 S03's on his car.

cmartinp28 12-10-04 09:42 AM

245/285 feels good i think it takes a lot for an fd to understeer, and the 245/45 is actually tall, cuz i have messed up my fenders with them. so i'd go with the suggestion ptrhahn said wit the 245/40. plus you get that kinda intimidating ass up face down kinda look ;)

Why spend more money and have 5 lbs more per tire for an S03, when you can buy a Toyo T1-S?

cmartinp28 12-10-04 09:51 AM

if you wanna save money go with goodyear gs-d3 they're great

That rim width is what I have for my street wheels. The fronts I have 245/40/17; that tire size works well. The rears I would have gone with a 265/40 but got a set of 255/40's thrown in with a wheel purchase. The 255/40's on 9.5" wheels work, but look a bit narrow on the rim.

Interesting comment.. because that's what I'm running now.. 235 front and 255 rear. I love how it handles.. but I have a chance to get S03 at a discount 55% off retail.. Also 255 on 9.5 looks narrow as someone else pointed out..

Note also, S03's and T1S's are shaped differently. T1's are round-shouldered and relatively narrower than S03's in the same size... S03s are square shouldered. T1S's ARE alot lighter though, S03's are bricks. I'm really loving the T1S's I put on my car though, great street tire.

Thanks for that info.. Maybe I should just stick with my T1S.. I do love how it handles... and I have over 80% thread left.. hmm.

Phil - I've tried 235/45/17 [sidewall too tall] and 235/40 [sidewall too small]. 245/40 fits the 8.5 wheel much better [current]. I currently run 275/40/17 out back - and I think a 265/40/17 would be a much better choice for a 9.5 wheel as Peter Hahn suggests; 275 fits a 10" wheel and it would be just a tad too large for the 9.5 wheel, but not the car. I have been running Sumitomo HTRZII tires - I'm totally impressed with its performance and price. When they get hot, they get sticky and grippy. They're much better than the RE730s they replaced and its tread is aggressive like the old S-02s.
