what size tire for 17x8 rims?
 

hey i just got some racing sparco rims 17x8 and i need to what size tires you recommend i want the widest possible and the lowest profile also i would like to know what brand tires you guys would recommend. i have all winter to save for some nice ones. i can get pics of the rims if you want too just let me know.

As far as I know, Falkens strech really nice. I would go with a 205/45. I have 215/45's on my wheels same 17x8 configuration and i wish i had more of a strech.

This guy asked for the widest possible... I'd say that on an 8" wide rim, you could probably get away with running 255's, though I'm not sure if you could push 265's.

For profile, I'd definitely recommend a 45 sidewall or lower, but going below a 40 side wall is going to be stiff and could be uncomfortable to ride around on.

A 245/40/17 will give you the most grip as far as handling goes. Anything bigger, the side wall will want to roll under on hard turns.

Whats the offset on your rims? I'm assuming this is an Fc.

yeah i was thinking of 255's that would look real aggressive but i do want some what of comfort and i am going to put tein s-techs on the car over winter so would that work out maybe a 245/40?

idk the offset i bought them off a friend and yes its an FC how can i figure out the offset? im a noob to rims and tires

Some times its on the inside of the rim were it bolts to the hub.

You need to give us more info on what you will be doing with the car. Are you taking it to the track? Autox? Road course? Drag? Do you care about life? Or are you all about max grip?

Also, if you haven't rolled the fenders, the biggest tire I would recommend up front is 225/45. And thats with the right offset.

For the offset, the best you can do is set them on a flat surface and measure up to the mounting surface. That will give us the "backspace" of the wheel. Or you could just put the wheel on the car and check for clearance.

the wheel size and offset should be stamped on one of the wheel spokes, or on the hub (inside)

I think even with a 245, you'll start getting sidewall roll.

Personally, I'm a fan of 225/45/17 on 17x8.

its a 45 offset i also will autox the car coming up spring time and i plan on lowering it on tein s techs over winter so tell me what you think

okayyy those wont even fit on your car without spacers.
get a set of 15mm bolt on spacers, and 225/45/17 (for the front). you can stick 255 or whatever in back.
or get wheels that actually fit.

being an n/a, i'd say 225/45 or 225/50 all around.

Stock offset is +40, at +45, you have even less clearance than stock.

your not going to get sidewall flex because your running 245's that number is how wide the tire is. the second number is the aspect ratio which if its too much it will affect your sidewall roll. read you tire rack manual boy racers

even with the offset being +45 it will still work fine right i mean the stock rims r 16's so of course im going to have less clearance im going to run a 17inch will the wheels just stick out farther?

those are 17x7 +47.
+47 means it sits INBOARD more. not further out. you want a lower offset. +30 is ideal

you're probably better off just getting different wheels. the widest tire you're gonna fit on there is a 225/45/17

could i possibly use spacers to have them set out wider? and 225's are pretty decent at least they are wider than my stock 215's. when i measured the rims width i got 8 inches but it says 7 idk then

Ever heard of sidewall roll when cornering coming from too large of a tire on too thin of a wheel? It happens on some 225's (namely Bridgestones) and 7's, it's not too far of a stretch to apply that to 245's and 8's.
