What FD wheels (CCW), sizes; need your help

Basically i'm in a dilemma here. I went to order 18x11.5, 18x10 SP550 CCW wheels yesterday. John basically told me not to do it. They don't look right in 18's and he sent me a pic. He told me to go with the SP500s but i just dont like the look as much.

I wanted to run maybe BFG's or MT's on the rear for this summer until I build the suspension up next winter and eventually road track it.

What do you think. Bump up the 19's on the rear and pray for the best with F1 supercar tires, stick to the 18's in the sp550's or go sp500's. For what it's worth the car is going to have around 450rwhp, with the possibilty of more later.

i don't like the look of any of those, that style looks like it needs to be on a fixed up maxima or something. Maybe if they weren't so polished/chrome??

silverTRD 05-16-08 03:56 PM

i like the look of the 550's myself. but i would never put 19's on an fd.

ccw's

ive been deeling with john for about 3 yrs. he is quick to give you his OPINION! but go with what u like the best. ive ordered 2 sets of classics. he tried to tell me to get same wheels that he offerd you but i had to go wit what III feel will look best.

19's dont look bad on fd's with body kits and flares but i the same time you lose rubber i just went from a 17 to 18 in the classics and the only thing i regret it the rubber band tire i would go with 18's not 19's my opinion

njstreetrx7 05-16-08 05:29 PM

since i just realize ur putting a 6.0 in the car i would say go with 16 inc rota's...lol

I have a sweet set of almost new 18x10 Fikse Profil 5s for sale (similar style to what you're looking for), PM me if interested ;)

Edit, we're also semi-local to each other.

Curious to see what's on your car, because in my opinion they are pretty standard polished five spoke wheels..

Yeah, I think 19's would like fine with the flares etc. it's the choice of rubber than i'm worried about.

I like the CCW classics and Rich's Fikse Profil 5s. The CCWs posted above look too simple, too bright, and they have too much lip. What OEM cars have wheels with with a lot of dish/outer lip? I can't think of any worth mentioning. IMO that's because they tend to make the car look narrower and less aggressive. Look at the Gallardo, F430, 599M, Enzo, Bugatti, R8, AM V8 , Nissan GTR, 911 turbo, ect. The RX7 already looks too narrow IMO, so I am not a fan of any of the wheels posted above.

Currently I have 17" Type RS wheels on my car. I briefly had a set of 18" Volk TE-37s -nice design, bad color and wrong offset. I need to replace the RS wheels with something wider as I am starting to struggle with traction. I'm up in the air as to what to use at this point, but I have more pressing issues to deal with first.

I love the ccw classic with the pettit rear flayer,s just my 2 cent s.

what blue you going with?
why not ask kyle about the wide forgelines he went with?
i think he runs 285 up front and 335 in back.

18x10 F and 18x12.5 rear. 7.5 inches of backspacing. Pettit racing flares.

Here is my FD with 17" Classic...thinking about the SP550 too but having second thought about 5 spoke wheel in general.

gnx7 05-19-08 05:01 PM

The 550's look better in 19" size.... tires are going to make you cry. The 18" size just looks a little small.

I really love the look of 18" CCW classics on FD's. Anodized centers look great!

rynberg 05-20-08 09:07 PM

There are problems with running 19s on the FD:

-- extremely limited sizing to stay anywhere near stock diameter
-- extremely limited sizing = very few tire choices
-- tire choices will be ungodly expensive

IMO, you would be much better off running 285/30 or 295/30 streetable R-compounds in the back. And 285/30 is ridiculously overkill for street use up front.

those wheels look frikin amazing on our cars. :icon_tup:

For what it's worth, i ended up geting 18x10 18x11.5 sp550's.

For tires I went with 285/35/18, 305/35/18 Nitto 555r II's.

so... what's the LIMIT anyway? HOW BIG can you go on a suspension-non-modified FD before your wheel rubs???

do 19's rub? can 18's fit a 315? :O 335? :D heck, 355? not even, but hey, WHAT ARE THE LIMITS?

i'm looking to get some wheels and tires on my car, probably 18's, but i'm not sure what the limit is... 11.5"? 12? front and rear, what are the limits? anyone? PM me pls :) thanks...

stubble88 05-21-08 10:26 PM

for stock FD's:
got this from the performance handbook :p:
no bigger than 9 inch wide in front
and 10 in the back
max offset front is 45/40 mill for 9 inch
max offset rear is 45 mill for 10 inch
Im dont know If I should do 17's or 18's
I think I want 9 wide F and 10 wide R

czwalga00gt 05-22-08 12:55 PM

Actually I lied, I went with the SP500's the thinner spoke.

Honestly, for stock I have no idea how big you can go. 7.5 Inch backspacing (i think) is the most your can run before you start hitting the stock suspension.

335's will fit with my flares, but 305's were the biggest they offered in the 555r II tires. For stock i think the max you can go is 10 and that's pushing it.
