what coilover setup?
 

My fd suspension is saggin, like a old broad!! so I,m going to replace it with coilovers ,partly because of the better stance and handling but really because I,m a bit vain. I heard the Ground control with advanced desighn shocks are good, anyone have a killer setup for autocross/street?

I recently installed the latest CUSCO ZERO 2's on my cousins FD. Most intro level coil-overs incorrectly offer the ability to raise or lower the car by moving the the threaded spring seat up or down. Better ones generally will use a second smaller set of helper springs, which allow you to lower while not causing too much change in spring rate. These ZERO 2's offer the ability to set the desired spring pre-load like the rest but have an additional adjustment (found in the more expensive ones) to raise and lower, without affecting your desired spring preload. Took us quite a bit longer than expected to find the optimum settings, but the results were beyond expectations. Sounds similar to what the guy was telling me,allows the ride height to lowered but still has 2.5 inches of suspension travel.What spring rates do you run?do you use for street/autocross?and how mutch $,thanks.

You may want to check out the suspension packages that TrueChoice offers. I just ordered their Stage 3 kit which included Double Adjustable Koni coilovers & Eibach Springs, plus plenty of other goodies. I think the kit was close to $2k, but they have Stage 1 & Stage 2 kits which are less.

Advance design struts are SWEET as hell. Very nice, double adjustables, but spendy as hell.

have ohlins on my car. brilliant. adjustable height, dampening and rebound. pretty expensive and hard to get though.

What about JIC guys? HAve you looked into them.

Sounds like you can't afford those ones though. Make sure you look into the total price of the GC's, struts, and pillowball mounts. It might be near the price of a fullu integrated system.

GET THE JIC!!!!!!!!!! From what i know JIC is ranked second in Japan, TEIN being first. Currently JIC is really building a name for themselves and is getting great responce by tuners in Japan.

Thats why I'm going to get me some TEIN's this week! :D ;);)

i just got my apexi n1 dampeners today and they kickass. you can definately see and feel the quality. ill update you guys as soon as they're in and i take it for a spin :D

Well the JIC has some strong points over the TEIN's but we'll just have to prove it. hehe.

These are rebuildable and custom valvable as well as stocking interchangable spring rates. So that's a big plus. I know TEIN has US division now, but am not sure what kind of extra services they've extended.

I can say that with JIC you retain some awesome uniformity when doing the whole vehicle. I mean, we have everything.

I have a FD3SFLT-A2 in stock, along with a 505SUS also 501S, and 3 Spec 90's for the FD. Also have strut tower braces front and rear in both Aluminum and Carbon Fiber for the FD. Also have a lower arm bar, FD.

So we can do everything with regards to suspension.

Y'all might regret not getting into JIC now, cause it's gonna come through real fast, within one year it should be amongst the top in the US. Nobody can touch the number of applications we produce and the number of different coilovers and exhaust systems.

the reason why some of us are not even looking at JIC's is probably due to the fact that (at least me) we do not see one which has a remote reservoir, and.. i havent seen all the specs with regard to the actual movement, how much change, pressure, adjustability, and strength behind it. As much as they may be hot in Japan, the last time I had seen, all the top shelf type apps are still using Ohlins. Ohlins there are like Penske's here, also I hear JRZ's aren't bad either..

Personally, I'm getting the Penske's double adjustables with remote's due to the kind of track racing I plan on doing. Yes, I know, I probably shouldn't use them on the street due to the fact that they recommend you rebuild them after 30 hours of serious track use, and that would lead to alot more rebuilds, but.. its definately worth it if you actually need it.

Otherwise, I'd have to say that the regular part-time enthusiast (track/strip) full time street person is probably better served with JIC, Apex'i,HKS, or other similar type kits.

Well, as I said I installed on my cousin's FD. I wouldn't call him a serious enthusiast, and I know he would never see the track. Initially I felt the TEIN HA's would best suit his driving habits, but for the same price (approx. $1500 set) had the opportunity to try the CUSCO Zero 2's instead. For the same price they offered the advantage of adjusting the preload of the springs and the ride height independently. Honestly, the TEIN's were more than enough for him, but this just gives me the opportunity to try something new. As with all other brands, they all offer different levels of quality, performance, price, etc... As for which brand is better than the other...this discussion would never end. I do feel the standard upgrade setups that we are accustomed to here in America aren't up to the level of the ones from Japan. I'm not saying that because of better quality, but in Japan they have years of experience with the Japanese cars, just as the Americans feature the best products for vehicles such as the Corvette, Viper, Camaro, Mustang,etc... I don't know what your level of demands are but all the brands mentioned do have various levels to offer. I wouldn't a say TEIN is ranked #1 and J I C# 2.... FRAM oil filters are ranked #1as well. (go figure) JIC's are what many of the "drifters" use in Japan, but that's not racing. Cusco is widely used on the Japan Racing Circuit, but isn't easily available here as TEIN's are. From what I have experienced, I do prefer the HKS Hypers over the TEINS, they are pricey, but easily available as well. If I could have my choice regardless availability, I would die to have a set of OHLINS's like 007007 has chosen. WorkS2R is correct, many of the respected tuners, Mine's, Pan Speed, Rocket Dancer, R-Magic, Anniversary to name a few use OHLINS. :)
