Water jets onto calipers
Hi,
Currently having a few drama's on my Gen 1 racecar with overheating front brakes. Someone suggested a water/jet/mist spray on to the calipers, attached to a switch or off the brake pedal etc. Has anyone tried it and can pass on any info? Cheers. |
That would be an excellent way to warp the rotors and keep people like Brembo in business forever. Just kidding, but I think that a drastic change in temp like that would definitely cause the rotors to warp and lessen their life. I could be wrong but doubtful.

Why dont you make some better brake air ducts. That way air goes directly onto the brakes. I'll post some pix of the RE-Amemiya ducts they make for their race cars. I need to install my scanner drivers :P

Yes, worried about the cracking as well, what I have been told if it is fine mist major cracking should not occur. |

What sort of fluid are u running? What compound brake pad? All stock components? Under what sort of conditions are u having problems? What sort of problems, sudden loss of brakes, spongy pedal, slowly loosing braking power as lap #'s increase? Assuming that it's a stock system with upgraded fluid and track pads there is probably not a whole bunch you can do. In this case you need to increase the size of your system to allow for a larger ammount of heat to be absorbed and dissapated. ps. I've never seen a water mist system used on a car, only on the european semi truck racing series. Matt |
Ever tried dumping hot water on iced windshield? I think you get the idea... :D
Maybe some slotted or drilled oversized rotors would help. |

If you are duct limited, spray water into the duct and not the rotor. This lowers the temp of the air passing through the duct without thermal shocking the rotor. Air conditioning for the duct if you will.
