Upgraded wheel bearings?
 

I am installing new rotors/pads/lines and fluid on my FD this weekend, as well as checking all the suspension bushings and preparing to redo them. Since the chassis has 80k on it, I figure it may be a good time to do the bearing s as well. Any bearings other than stock available? I know on my inline hockey skates, when I switched to really high quality Swiss bearings, I truly could skate quicker and with less effort. I would glide faster and further with each push. Over the "stock" bearings in my skates, it was a huge improvement.This has to be transferrable to cars, no?

Is there the equivalent of high precision bearings for autos? Or do cars weigh too much to take advantage in this way. There is a huge amount of difference in the load on the surface of a wheel bearing as on the ones in my skates, obviously. But can the same technology/precision be used or would it be too " delicate"?

I can't say for SURE, but I highly doubt it. I currently at the Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academy building a F2000 car and we don't use any special bearings or anything of that sort. Unless there is play in your bearings, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you really want to do something, you can always take out the bearings and inspect the inner and outer races. I don't know if FD bearings are serviceable or not, if so then take them apart clean off the ball-bearings and inspect them. Get as much of the old grease off the races, and the part that holds the balls in place. Then just repack your bearings from there. It'll cost a lot less than replacing the bearings, if the bearings are still fine.

There are no wheel bearing upgrades that I'm aware of for the FD Rx7s.

If there's no wheel play, then there's nothing to worry about.

You can't repack the front bearings. The whole assembly must be replaced.

I found these in my searching, but I imagine even if they can customize my application to fit, it will most likely be out of my $$$$ range. The dealer parts are cheap ( $120ish a side) so I guess Ill uise those.. Thanks!
