Tokico Illuminas?
I'm thinking of putting some Tokico Illumina 5s on my 93 R1. Anyone have any experience with these? Are they a straight swap out of the original shocks? I have to keep it strickly stock for my Solo2 class.

I have them. I like them but I don't compete like you so I'm sure you're more attuned to the nuances.
There's a huge difference to me between the settings and they are super simple to change settings. |
its good for street.
not so good for autocross or track. reza |
I have them ..
I like them. :~) S |
I have them, and I like them a lot.
I think that you can run any shock/strut you want, as long as your springs are stock. You might post this question in the race car forum for rule clarification |
In a a stock class you can run any shock under the sun as long as it has no more than two external adjustments and uses the stock springs at the stock ride height.
Lots of people run the Tokicos and like them but if you are adding shocks in order to compete in SoloII and are not willing to go with something custom valved ($$$) I would pick the Konis. The Koni is infinitely adjustable compared to the Tokico's 5 fixed settings and the Koni has great industry support who can rebuild, revalve etc. The Koni is slightly more expensive but worth it in my opinion. Most would also agree it is built better than the Tokico. |
Agreed, I didn't like the Tokicos either, when I had them. In fact I went back to R1 Showa shocks LOL :)
|
Of the two FD's with Tokicos that I've auto-x'ed in, I can't say that I like them. I can't say that I hate them either. I definitely feel like the Koni's perform better. But, then again, if you really want the car to transition flat ... it's springs you need.

Thanks for the pressure help, redrotor. I ended Sunday with a 52.0
Wish I had trusted your info enough to have done it right away on Saturday. I have never been happy with pressures that low until this weekend. |
No problemo, dude. I wish someone was standing at corner 3 with a microphone on my 50.5 run .... I coned it just barely. As soon as I hit it, I started cussing like sailor .... all the way through the ensuing two sweepers. Would've been funny to hear that .... *smack* - godd%^&!^@$&^! stoopid m&$@&&!$^%!$&^@!% . Seeing as how sloppy I was and still put down a 50.xx; I think I could have gone a lot faster through that course. Shoulda, woulda, coulda .... dammit. :bash:
At least it's only a month until I can redeem myself. |
what do you guys set yours to? I got setting 2 all around and it still seems too stiff.
|
5 front and 3 rear
|
i bet you are jumping around over every hole or bump on the road :)
|
I got mine set usually set to 3 front and 1 rear. Helps dial out over steer.
