Tires for FD what would you suggest???
 

I am in the market to get some new tires for my FD and was just asking to see what peoples thoughts are on some different tires that I had in mind.

Im running Kumho 712's now but kinda want to try something a little more expensive to see if they would be better. I have not had any complaints from the Kumhos but I have never had anything else with this setup I have now.

Anyhow the tires im looking at are:
BFG g-Force T/A KDW2
Pirelli P-Zero Nero
Goodyear Eagle F1
Potenza S0-2 or 3

Sizes:
235x40x18
265x35x18

I'd recommend one that's not on your list, the Kumho Ecsta MX. These are a huge improvement over the 712s.

You could spend more money and try the best. I've done that and, in hindsight, was not that impressed given the differences in cost. I've tried S02s, KDWs, P-Zero Rossos, Yok AVS Sports and Kumho MXs. I was most impressed with the MXs, S02s and KDWs. I would be hard pressed to determine the best of these in the dry. On wet roads, I's say the KDWs and S02s are a tad better than the MX, but it's not an appreciable amount.

The P-Zeros were a close second, but I tended to get more wheelspin on dry accelaration runs compared to KDW and MX. These were also the tires that offered the best ride quality (haven't tried the Neros).

The Yokohamas were the among the worst high performance tires I've ever experienced in recent years. Slippery in the rain and quickly hardened over a relatively short period of time.

S03s are supposed to be a slight improvement over the S02, and the same can be said for the Neros over the Rossos, so they might be the best tire of the lot. Again, the price of the Kumhos is a huge factor, particularly if you go through tires like I do. The only drawback is a little more road noise compared to the other tires.

Nitto 555R's are probably the most grippy street-legal tire.

But they will only last 10-15k miles

Yeah right now im just trying to justify paying the 200-300 dollars more for a set of tires over the Kumhos. The BFG's are the most likely other than just gettting the Kumho's MX i guess.

Everything the car does goes through the tires -- it should be relatively easy to justify spending more money on tires. There is no need to buy the BFG KDs or Michelin Pilot Sports 2 -- as they are the best but overpriced. Stick with Pirelli Pzero Nero, Toyo T1-S, Kumho MX for great bang-for-the-buck tires. The plus is that the three tires I listed all do well in the rain as well as dry. My Toyos have held up amazingly well, given the abuse I've dished out on them. They ride pretty decently and are quiet as well -- I'm running same sizes that you are looking at.

I concur with Rynberg.... Toyo T1s and Kumho MX.

Looks like im sold on the MX as I was happy with the 712's. What stores carry the MX? I cant seem to find them anywhere except tirerack, I was hopeing to just get them local mounted and balanced where I bought them.

Look at the T1-S... it's a top of the line tire, and I did my 18" set for well under $200/tire.

My stock FD on Konis pulled over 1.1g in the dry and .9 g in the wet on 225/50/16 Kumho MX. I've got the data to prove it :bigthumb:

Gee... if the 712s made you happy you're in for a pleasant surprise... the MX will feel like slicks to you. The 712s are terrible for anyone looking for grip.

Peter, did you ever try the Goodyear F1's or Michelin Pilot sport PS2? I would love to try the Kuhmo's but they don't seem to have the 255/35/18 size...

Mx's... Tire racks got em... pretty cheap too

$125 for the 235/40/18's
$167 for the 265/35/18's

Yokohama A032R, but you'll have to get 17s to put them on. Trust me though, you won't be disappointed. I'm not sure if the A048R is available in the size you want but they have them in 18s.

S0-3!!!!!!!!

I have 285-30-18 S-03s and I wouldn't recommend them, nor do I plan on buying them again.

Any particular reason? Other than being heavy, I've never seen a single negative comment from anyone on these tires.

Why do you say this? S-03s are generally considered to be one of the better street tires out there. I have a set on my car and have absolutely nothing bad to say about them performance-wise.

Sorry to do this but I wanted to ask the same question as you, but did not want to start another thread. Hope you do not mind. I was looking at getting some NITTO 555's and PIAA's Super Rozza Monoblock. I tried posting a pic of the PIAA's but no luck. Still need to figure this out. Any help would be great.

Besides tirerack, and the manufacturer's website, is there any way to find out if a certain wheels fits my ride. I would like the PIAA Super Rozza 2 piece HB. But now come to find out that the 18's I wanted are not available. What would I run into if I went to 19's? Need help. Just so you know, I'm new to this, so no hammering please. :D

Well to get back on this, I bought the Kumho MX's and they are great so far. They feel much stickier and smooth as shit on the hiway. I would recomend these to someone for cheap great tires.
