The Tire Thread

With all the new technology and new brands of tires these days, its hard to stay on top of which perform well and which, well, just perform. This thread is made for you to share your rubber experience - street, strip, or autocross.

If you don't like something about a particular tire, you can vent here. On the other hand, if just love your tires and want to jump for joy, tell us why. Please list your car and level of mods for reference.

Do it.

From my experiences...

Goodyear Eagle F1-GSD3 - Amazing tire, wet or dry. Wears well, and very grippy. VERY Expensive

BFG G-Force Sport - Great tire, in the dry. Not so good in other conditions. R-Compound, rather soft, very grippy though. And can fit most (who are enthusiasts...) people's budgets (~$65/tire)

Dunlop Direzza DZ101: 235/45/17 Front and 265/40/17 Rear. These tires are great. They hookup really well. Would I use them for doing hard driven track days? Probably not. I'm a Dunlop guy though. I've used them on my bikes and my cars. No complaints here.

Newer Pirelli's are not too good.

I've got KDW's on the front. They're pretty nice and not wearing nearly as fast as the Avon 500's on the back. The avons are a nice tire, I had the all season on before and they were great in the rain.

I've had a couple different high performance tires, the Falken FK-451, and the Kumho SPT, both in a 225/45/17 on my S5 with nearly stock suspension save for some bracing, some RB sways and poly bushings in front.

Falken FK-451.
Plusses: Good tire, inexpensive, good wet and dry grip when new, nice turn in, handled track abuse well, and were good for autocrossing.
Minuses: Wore out pretty quickly for a 280 wear rated tire (track abuse didn't help), lost a lot of grip when fully worn.
Overall: A good buy, but the wear and loss of grip made me look elsewhere for tires when replacements were needed, plus some variety is nice. They won't compete with the best street tires, but for the money they're a good buy.

Kumho SPT (current tires).
Plusses: Good tire, one of the cheapest tires out there, excellent wet and dry grip, especially for a tire with a 320 wear rating, handles autocross abuse well, seems to wear much slower than the 451's.
Minuses: None really, other than they're not the stickyest tire out there, but they'll last much longer than those that stick better.
Overall: Super good deal, it is a very good tire for a rediculously low price. It's one of the cheapest HP tires out there, but it has the grip, wear and quality of a tire with a much higher price. They're not the stickyest, tire out there, but they're damned good for a 320 wear rated tire (better than ES-100's for instance). I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

very grippy in turns havent had the sidewall roll over yet. dry traction is excellent, but havnet had a chance to test them in the rain. not very cheap though, i paid $600 for a set with goodyear dealer discount from tirerack.

i dont know there is a huge diference between the money spent on tires.... i have rt-615's and they are the best feeling tire i have ever driven on....

if your into spirited driving and competitions this tire is for you.... plus it comes in more sizes and is cheaper than ad07's(the other tire i was thinking of getting but didnt because lack of sizes)

spend good money on tires people its the only thing that touches the ground!
