tire size help?

Hey, I've got watanabe rs-8's for my 87' Turbo. The fronts are 16 by 7 and in the back they are 16 by 8s. I want to know whats the best tire setup to run. My car is only lowered about an inch, but I don't want mud swamper tires, but also a good ride. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. So far I've been leaning towards 195/40 or 45s on the front and 205/40 or 45s in the back? But let me know whats the best setup!

Thank you

Stock tII wheels are 16x7 and run 205-55-16's. I use 225-50-16's all around with no problems, and my car is lowered an inch or so. I think you can run 245-45-16's on the rears, but you might need a spacer. I would only use one of those three sizes to keep the speedo correct. I would personally run the 225's in front and the 245's in the rear.

I'm wanting a low profile look but a good ride as well.

Thanks

Well, you really need to keep the tire the same diameter to keep the speedo correct.

I question why you're looking at the "rubberband" tires?
I don't even think they make a 195 / 40 / 16 sized tire?

If you want a "good ride", you need to keep the aspect ratio (i.e. the middle number) at least 50%.

Widest rubber for your given rim widths...
7.0" -> 225 / 50 / 16
8.0" -> 245 / 45 / 16

Symmetric tire sizes...
Run all 225 / 50 / 16 front and rear

Taller sidewall for better ride quality...
205 / 55 / 16 front and rear

if you want to go with a slightly lower tire, you could run something like 205/50 front, 225/45 rear... shouldn't throw the speedo off too much.
