thread engagement

I searched and found a post about thread engagement, but somthing confuses me. I was hoping some one can tell me how many turns you guys get on a stock Rx7 with alloys.

With the FN01R-C's I get about 6.5 turns but I've found that the general rule is you want at least as much thread engagement as the stud is thick. So if I have 12mmx1.5 I'd want about 12/1.5=8, so I want 8 turns on the lugs. But I don't remember getting this.

And well was hoping to get some input here, I didn't add a spacer or anything but would using these wheels constitute needing longer studs?

thanks
Rip

Excellent rule to live by.

thanks looks like I'm on the market for new studs. I'm thinking ARP.

What do you guys think is a good length?

I guess too much is better than too little, but I got the keyed nuts so they have a top to them, so I cant go to long.

stock is about 2.25" or about 57.2mm given that I need at least 2 more turns well thats about 2*1.5=3 more mm of length so 60.2mm should work.

So I'm looking for 60.2mm or 2 3/8.

but I'm guessing nothing is that exact amount. anyone have suggestions?

arp comes in 2.85" and 2.5" long

2.85" has a .485 knurl
2.5" has a .509 knurl

what is the stock knurl
