Thoughts On Megan Parts
 

I wouldn't thought twice about this 5+ years ago, but over the years I've seen more and more non-riced out getto cars with these parts on them.

I'm needing new coilovers and was looking at the Apexi N1, but I could get the Megan coilover with all the same stuff for $200-$300 less.

1) Try the suspension forum and read the FAQ.
2) Suspension is not something you wanna go cheap on. You'll regret it.
3) Don't buy Megan coil overs.

Bought Megan exhaust, plus Megan gauges, and some other stuff about 4 years ago. Wasnt that impressed with the quality. Functioned, but wasnt of the same fit & finish as say Autometer, or Apexi. More like bargain functional.

Let me know what budget you are working with and we can get you a great set of quality coilovers. Much better than that Korean garbage, Megan.

I have a friend at Auto-x with Megan street coilovers on his 400hp+ RB powered S14 240 and it handles much better than stock and is much faster than stock.

I have another friend with a S2000 with double adjustable Megan Track coilovers and it gets beat by the stock S2000 on street tires.

That pretty much sums up Megan; its not exactly crap, but its not as good as what is stock on a higher end car.

FD is a higher end car, other than higher end aftermarket parts worsen the performance over stock.

If your car is purely street driven, I'd say go for it. If you plan to track or auto-x the car, I would save a little more money and go for something like Tein Flex.

The main problem with some of the "cheaper" coilovers is they aren't guaranteed consistency with their construction. A few years ago, someone (not on this forum) did a shock test on one of those cheap manufactured sets of coilovers and found the damping behavior different across all 4 dampers. Now, I don't believe it was Megan coilovers that were tested, but that gives you an idea of the lack of quality control which is part of what makes coilovers like those "cheaper" than the others.

We have the Tien Flex's with the EDFC installed in the dash on our race car. Absolutely love them! All the coilovers less than $1200 are ALL Tiawaneese. Literally all of them are made in the same factory that makes the Apexi N1's, each company just bids to get their color put on them.

If you're tracking the car go with the flex's at bare minimum. If you're street driving the car and want some extra performance handling get some Illuminas or Koni struts. The valving actually works...
