Did SSR ever make a wheel that looks like the Volk TE37?

I have the Dec 09 issue of Performance Auto & Sound magazine and at the top of page 22 is a Lexus SC300 with what looks like Volk TE37s but it says they are SSR (but not what kind of SSR), and they're not on SSR's website anymore so I'm assuming IF they ever made them, they're not anymore. They have a polished lip and gold center. I've always loved the TE37 but they're so damn expensive.

BTW this issue has the no. 2 APEX'i drift FD on the cover and inside.

you're probably thinking of ssr competitions, which are 6 spoke, but not a te knockoff.

rota grid is a te37 knockoff. the come in 15-18, up to 18x10- which is hawt

they dnt look close at all... only that its 6 spoke

i wouldnt waste money on knock off's... not worth it... rims might be affordable.. but quality isnt the best... ive seen rota's break on the track and after touge runs... wheels warping etc....

Not to get technical or anything, but Grids were originally a LE37T knock off. You can tell by the polished lip on the 1st couple years of them. ;)

Well, I looked at the Rota Grids last night, but what I saw in the magazine don't really look like those, and they don't look like SSR Comps either. These had more of a lip than the Grid or Competition. Didn't they make the TE37 with more of a lip (polished) with a gold center at one point? Maybe more of a street wheel? This thing looked IDENTICAL to a TE37 aside from more lip and the color, but the magazine said they were SSR. I think they were probably just mistaken, or those just weren't the wheels that were on it at the time. Another thing...when I was looking at the Rotas, I didn't see any of the Grids in 18", nor any other size with a 10" width, only 9.5". Where did you find the 18X10 Josh?

I don't think I would ever get the Rota Grid, they look good but I don't trust their quality. I would get an SSR though because they seem more reputable. But I'd LOVE to have the TE37.

My mistake, I think what they were is LE37, not TE37. And unfortunately the LE37 has been discontinued. Dammit.

I used to work at SSR, and since then I am still a dealer for them.

The TE37 is "inspired" by the SSR Type C's styling if anything. The Type C was around before the TE37. The Type C was and is still used in professional racing before Rays was around and is "no lesser" a wheel.

The polished lip thing was a special Tire Rack only deal that SSR Japan did for Tire rack when they were exclusive for SSR products. Since SSR went bankrupt, the exclusive deal with Tire rack was severed and Tanabe / SSR offered their full product line here in the states. IMHO the Tire rack/SSR relationship was not good for SSR at all.

So, hence that special polished lip Competition cannot be had anymore. Only The Type C-RS on the website. Special colors can be done at special request, and extra cost.

The wheels on the APEX'i Rx7 were Rays Gram Lights.

I like the SSR Type C, but I wish it sloped in more like the TE37/LE37. I've been thinking about the SSR SP1 or MS1 for my next wheel, but I just can't shake the TE37 look. I've heard nothing but good things about SSR so I'm not worried about quality.

Do the MS1s, the SP1 look gets done too frequently.

The concaved-ness of the TE37 comes at a drawback of brake clearance so like all things it's + and - to each.

Yeah I know the 5-spoke is kinda played, but I'm just not sure about mesh either. I like them both though. Oh well, I have time to think about it. Thanks for your input!

Oh, and as far as brake clearance, I shouldn't have to worry about that too much. I'll be running high offsets on all wheels...right now I'm running 10.5 +15 on the rear (and I'll be going for the same on the new wheels), and right now I have 10 +38 on the front and I plan to run probably 9.5 +20 or so on the front. Hopefully that will help, unless I'm clueless on brake clearance haha.

^You mean current or the proposed offsets? lol I plan on getting a kit from Racing Brake within the next couple years too. Hopefully these will clear those. I wouldn't mind getting a set of SSR Type Cs for the track with the same offsets as my street wheels, to replace my current RPF1s. I really like the RPF1s though. I just wish they came in a more aggressive offset for the front.

well my last rpf1s were 17x9 +22 in the front 17x10 +18.. it was well suited..

i only sold them after my friend came over and she had them on her prelude lol

^Well it's a classic wheel, but I understand why you'd want to sell them after that lol. I used to have a 97 Prelude, and the only things I did to it was a CAI (only because I couldn't find a replacement stock air filter), suspension and wheels. Oh, and stereo. But once I realized what performance was and got an FD, I all but forgot about the Prelude haha. The only Hondas I have ANY kind of love for anymore is an NSX or S2000, and that's only occasionally, and if the owner isn't a douchebag that thinks his car is THE car. I do have an 01 Civic, but it's my DD in times like this with snow on the ground and the FD can't be driven.

Oh that sucks. There aren't many cars around here with RPF1s, I think I might be the only one in town actually. And of course my roommate and all my other friends with FDs want to go wider now since I got these wheels, so I know what you mean there haha. I have a couple buddies here with S2Ks and they're really cool, and we had a friend in Denver with an NSX but he sold it and he's trying to get a Porsche now. I guess his parents own a bunch of liquor stores lol. Must be nice.

01 Civics also hold up well to hitting deer too, like on our way out to SEMA last year at 2am in the mountains haha.

I don't have any pics of the S2Ks yet. They're stock for the most part, but one of them is going turbo. The other guy does carbon fiber work and for the last couple years he's been doing his whole car. He's also painted a few pieces for me. They're good guys. The other guy's NSX was nice too, I wouldn't have sold it if I was him. I guess he just wanted something different though. Yeah we got real lucky on the deer haha.
