suspension/wheel/car pics

I've had the car back for about two weeks. Still in love with the Tien's and other suspension mods. I managed to get it lowered today and I'm happy to report at it's current level, no rubbing! I've bumped the Tien's up to 8 in front, 6 out back. I did ride around in Daytona for bike week with the settings on 10 and it was getting a bit rough at times over some of the rougher streets.

Here's a list of the suspension/wheel mods;
Volk SE37A's 18x9.5's with 265/35/18's at all 4 corners
Tien HA's stock mounts, 10kg front, 8kg rear
Suspension Technique sway bars f/r
Widefoot swaybar mounts
Mazdatrix swaybar end links
M2 toe links and trailing arms

Now for the pics...

awesome car :bigthumb:

is the car rubbing any with those big wide wheels in front? also, what tires are you using?

rx7tt95 03-12-02 10:11 PM

Nope, no rubbing in the front whatsoever. I was a bit worried looking at things this morning after lowering it an inch but they proved to be unfounded. I did remove the two screws in the upper portion of the fender liner as it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm really pleased with the results. Can't wait to hit the track! Still working on a big brake kit for the car first however, along with several body mods.

Hey Michel,

Car's back on the road....excellent!!!! Looks really nice.
That a Knightsport hood or M2? Hopefully, u'll get a chance to chronicle its resurrection in Overboost. :)

I'll second that, VERY sweet ride!

My double adjustable Koni's with Eibach springs are sitting in the garage waiting to go on later this week!

Did you end up lowering an inch front and rear? My rear looks as if it could come down more than an inch 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 and front probably just slightly less than an inch(7/8).

Ok after driving around for the day with the car lowered about 1.25" lower than stock (initial Tien recommended settings were about .25-.5" lower than stock I believe) I have a few more impressions. The ride is fine, but it does make my CD player skip. I have an upper-end Eclipse head unit but I'm not sure how good they are in terms of shock protection. At one point it wouldn't read the CD at all. This is with the settings at 8f/6r. I'll try and back them off a bit and see if I still get rubbing. Honestly, I can't imagine ever wanting to go any lower! With the 99-spec splitter on the front, I have maybe 2" of front ground clearance. God only knows how much I'll have when the FEED front end arrives. For those living in say, Michigan or Long Island, forget about it. The car will rattle to pieces using my current settings. On most roads, however, it's just fine and I'm pretty picky. I used to think my VehiCross had a harsh ride, but now if feels plush and very soft compared to the RX7.

Hedge, it's the Knightsports hood. The quality was very good on it and the surface finish was flawless. Edge gaps were tolerable, but not perfect, maybe a 9 out of 10. Still, worth every penny. Seems to work rather nicely too. I've installed the rain-free vents on the rear to protect the ABS and HKS ignition systems (on their respective sides) but left them off the main two vents as water will just fall in between the front of the engine and the intercooler. No biggie. I may install it later when the tropical wave hits our area and it rains every day for four months....I don't think Overboost will be seeing any more articles unless they come up with some serious moolah, LOL. The articles ARE open to publication anywhere else if someone is interested :-)

So...the car is just about complete for the time being. I have a set of side skirts going on probably tomorrow along with a racing seat/harness, then the FEED front end (in Urethane!) some time in April, and then I'll have the arduous task of picking out a rear wing. I'm thinking GTC or Veilside. I should have my big brake kit on in two to three weeks and once the FEED front end arrives, I'll be designing a 34 row oil cooler, single sided. Then all I'll need is that HKS GT3540 turbo, a roll cage and six speed sequential box. That should keep me happy for a while!

looks sweet
did you get the pillow ball mounts??

rx7tt95 03-14-02 08:20 AM

I did not get the pillow mounts as I've heard they really deteriorate the ride. I may get them in the future as they're not too expensive. If you order the HA's without them, they send a tapered spring with a larger diameter at the top which mates to the stock upper mount perfectly. It's still 2.5" OD on the bottom.
