during corning, on a smoothly paved rough my car feels great. but if the pavement isn't perfectly even the car gets very bouncy. kinda scary. almost feels like the car is hopping around. i have the tein ha coilovers. currently it's set to 7 or 8 from hardest. i've tried setting it to 10 from hardest, but think it still doesn't help that much. is this normal?

Also, answer RETed's and maxcooper's questions. Sounds like too stiff a suspension coupled with heavy wheels and low profile tires are causing a jarring ride. In that case, yes, it's "normal".

 

I've noticed those million way adjustable suspensions don't make much of a difference when you click them from soft to hard.

i believe the spring rate is like 500 something in the front and high 400 in the rear

 

you feeling bump steer or overly bounce set up? if it's coilover and you just love to take it to the limit, you'v gotta live with. i drive my fd daily at 16kg/mm

if your car is an fc with spring rates 8k front and 6k rear and you have the pillow mounts try going 11 clicks back from the hardest, front and rear. You have to find the right setting. Do you have pillow mounts or not? Did you lower the car lower than the tein manual suggests? If you did that your spring rates change. If its an FD I do not know. There are a lot of variables that affect the handling. When it bounces too much on the streets you are driving, you should make your settings a little softer.

 

Wheels+tires are reasonably light -- I don't think there is much room for improvement there.

Yeah, you may just be over-damped (shocks set too "stiff"). Or underdamped, but I think that is less likely. Try softening the shocks first and see if that improves things. I don't know how many positions the shocks have, so you may have tried that already (10 from stiffest). Go the other way and see what happens.

Are your spring rates typical for FCs? Particularly, is the front/rear ratio typical?

For the best ride, the suspension frequency should be about 10% higher in the rear than it is in the front (maybe 5% on a stiff car). I think there are some sites that explain how to find suspension frequency (using weight, stiffness, motion ratio at each end). That is mostly for straight-line comfort though, and may not be applicable to your problem in the turns. Since that is a typical difference for front/rear stiffness, however, it may be useful for making your car handle more like other cars.

Try disconnecting your rear anti-sway bar, too.
