not sure how many people on the suspension list look at the wanted/for sale section, so here goes. I helped a friend change out his shocks and springs and we noticed his strut top mounts be badly deformed and needed replacing. Does anyone that went with a coilover set up have their old ones they'd want to get rid of?

Tim, brand new ones are actually pretty cheap from Mazda. I think Malloy has them for under $40 each.

I think they are closer to $60 each, which works out at $240 or so for four. Not my idea of cheap, but I guess by Mazda standards it is.

There is a guy on the classifieds forum throwing in a set with a pair of Eibach springs and Tokico shocks - you might be able to get him to separate them.

 

I got new fronts several months back, they were under $40 each through Mazda Motorsports. Retail price IS probably $60 each, but Malloy's prices are usually just above dealer cost.

 

Regardless of what Mazda charges this is a part I would never buy used. It's a very large chunk of rubber and even if the car has low miles the rubber is still over 10 years old and has deformed. Buy new ones.

I replaced my rears recently and was happily suprised to hear the road noise from the rear end quiet down some.

 

thanks for the feedback guys. When I say his were deformed, I mean deformed. We were having a hard time just getting them to sit back in the top without trying to roll out.
I'll give Ray a call and see what the price is and relay that to my friend since he's on a tight, just out of college budget

im going to replace my shocks with tokicos this month. is there anything else i should get besides the rubber mounts?

there are top and bottom rubber mounts right?

 

you are correct. i think the bottom on is called a spring pad. it keeps the suspension quiet.

oh and when you take it all apart, you will find these little plastic things between the body and the upper shock mount bushings aka pillowballs. re-use them so the suspension doesn't squeak when you put it all back together.
