Stance GR+ vs Tein Flex

Searched, couldnt find a whole lot of anything about Stance. The car is a 94 Touring. Wont see a whole lot of track, but gets a bit of spirited driving through mountains and stuff. Mainly looking for something good all around for a daily car, minor track use, and a bit of mountain driving. I heard the Flex are good all around coilovers. Let me know your opinions.

Can't go wrong with either...I would lean toward the stance since it is a little newer.

JhnRx7 03-09-11 10:39 PM

I just got a set of Stance GR+ from Rishie at AutoRND and I love them. They are suprisingly comfortable on the street and absorb bumps and road imperfections really well. I have only really been out driving once since I installed them but I did get a chance to run some back roads and from what I can tell they are an outstanding coilover for the money. I highly recommend them :icon_tup:

TinMan09 03-10-11 08:48 AM

Good to know. JhnRx7 have you ever rode in a FD with Teins? If so how does it compare? I understand the stances are newer but sometimes the newer stuff isnt always the better stuff. Also what about the Stance being mono and the Teins not? Does that make a difference to anybody not on a track? Im new to this coilover thing lol. I came from a WS6, its a bit different.

revox7 03-10-11 09:01 AM

id say go with what has proven to work

MR_Rick 03-10-11 09:13 AM

I would base my decision on how accessible to a rebuild they are and spring rates.

TinMan09 03-10-11 12:24 PM

both rebuilable in the unit states, both have about the same turn around time on the rebuild. Spring rates are close, tein is 12/10 and stance is 12/12. i was thinking go with what has been proved. Tein i hear ALOT of good stuff about, but on other sites im seeing stance come up quite a bit. Thats whats making me wonder.

JhnRx7 03-10-11 12:31 PM

I think you will be happy either way. I have ridden in an FD with Tein Flex however they had led a hard life and were on their way out, if not blown already. The owner had good things to say though.

You can get whatever spring rate you want with the Stance, you just need to specify. I got 12F 10R. I had previously had The Pettit TrackPro Stage III's which are also 12/10 however they were not monotube like the Stances. I found that having both back to back the Stances are more comfortable on the street. It really all depends on the valving of the shock.

IMO you cant go wrong either way.

gracer7-rx7 03-10-11 02:13 PM

AutoRND sells and has experience with both. He will be a good person to talk to.

Andrew. 03-10-11 02:35 PM

They're both great coilovers. I would say that the Flex are geared a little bit more for street driving, while the GR+ are geared a little bit more for track driving, but they're both great dual-purpose coilovers, no doubt.

MR_Rick 03-10-11 03:22 PM

I had Flex before and I was very happy with them but it is hard when there is no one that had them both to compare. If both are very similar then price would be the deciding factor.

TinMan09 03-10-11 04:30 PM

lol some say tein is more gear toward street and some say the stance are more for street lol. man its a toss up. Stance gr+ Pros are like $200 less than the teins. thats a helping factor.

Narfle 03-10-11 05:30 PM

Stance doesn't offer anything like edfc. Dealbreaker.

TinMan09 03-10-11 05:46 PM

lol not sure how much im going to be changing the settings on the shocks. dont think it makes the edfc a necessary piece of equipment for me. although i have thought about it.

MR_Rick 03-10-11 05:56 PM

Had EFFC and I really didn't use it.

21K95RX7 03-10-11 07:25 PM

Why don't you look at the pettit trak pros?

When it comes to spring rates this high, damping adjustments are the easiest way to transition from dd to street attack to time attack. Not having to get dirty to do it, or pull the car over to do it is immensely awesome.

Rode in a car with Track Pros then rode in one with Tein's. I like the Teins much much more than the track pros. Thats why its not in the comparison. Should add they were both on similar settings.

DriftDreamzSS 03-11-11 09:29 AM

I have no complaints with my gr+. The ride is pretty comfortable at 25% from full soft even with the standard 12k/12k springs.

TinMan09 03-11-11 09:44 AM

your car is what actually got me thinking stance, because of the stance lol. sharp car man.

kalinakona 03-11-11 09:51 AM

I think, in a situation such as this, you should flip a coin.

Andrew. 03-11-11 10:24 AM

Just go with the GR+, they're cheaper and right on par with the Flex, so you can't go wrong.

olyrx7 03-11-11 11:06 AM

Im running the Stance coilovers, I cant compare to the tien but I really like the way the car handles and reacts on the street and through the twistie roads

TinMan09 03-11-11 12:37 PM

I like the flip a coin idea. Heads Tein, Tails Stance. Heads won it guys. Tein it is. End of thread lol. Wonder if thats as simple as it really should be...

kalinakona 03-11-11 01:12 PM

Well, seeing as how they are both quality coilovers with good reputations, easy to have rebuilt, not a giant price difference in the scheme of things, what else do you have to go off? I mean, does one have a color you prefer or that matches your car better?

TinMan09 03-11-11 03:16 PM

well im not all about the whole shiny color to go with the car thing, specially with something like shocks. they could be pink for all i care, nobody is really going to see them if its done right.

JhnRx7 03-11-11 03:50 PM

How much did you see the Stances listed for? Have you talked to Rishie (AutoRND)? If not, shoot him a PM and ask for his RX7club pricing... I think you will be pleasantly suprised. Also, you don't need the pro's for our car... Just the GR+.

TinMan09 03-11-11 04:51 PM

the pro's cheapest i found were $14xx and the plain gr's were like $1358 or something. which isnt a lot less than the tein's

JhnRx7 03-11-11 08:53 PM

Sorry, I posted his company name not forum name in my last post.

PM "ARD T2" he will give you a good price. Then you can decide which route to take.

driftfcbuckey 03-12-11 03:34 AM

stance GR+ is the older models. Rishie @ AutoRnD has the new XR lineup available for FC/FD rx7 with Swift Springs. top of the line model available.

Tein is no where near comparable... even the GR+ coils are amazing. nothing wrong with them, just a little older model. the new XR lineup is DG5 territory at half the price.

What "data" are you basing this on?

Josh18_2k 03-12-11 10:23 AM

dont confuse flex's with the other bottom end teins, they arent the same (SS, super drift, HA, whatever). flex's are actually good dampers

i thought the spring rates for tein were 10/8? i must of been misinformed then.

TinMan09 03-12-11 04:49 PM

they come in 12/10 but you can opt to get 10/8 springs special order.

MR_Rick 06-04-11 08:03 PM

You ever decided which one to get? I'm in the same dilemma. Leaning towards the Tein since I had a very good experience with them but would like to see which route you went.

TinMan09 06-06-11 07:43 AM

I went Stance. Got a good deal on them so i took it. I'm still in afghanistan so i havent got to put them on yet. Hell i havent even got to see my car yet lol. Ill let you know how it goes when i get home at the end of the month.

WHIPSrx7 06-07-11 09:00 AM

I bought Tein Flex coilovers and ordered a pair of Tein's standard springs (same style as the ones included in the kit) that would give me a preferred spring rate that I chose using Howard Coleman's recommendations. The set of standard springs I bought (P/N SQ060-01175) are 336 lbs/in. So, when I received the Type Flex coilovers, I swapped the 336lbs/in springs I ordered with the rear 448lbs/in springs. I then took off the 559lbs/in springs on the front and replaced them with the 448lbs/in springs that were on the rear. I love them but haven't been on the track yet. I think the ride is quite nice when the damping is set to the softest level.

Reviving a thread here...

The front and rear springs are interchangeable? What this guy did is a good idea...

Keeble 03-25-14 07:08 PM

They are just 2 1/2 race springs so definitely interchangeable
