Staggered 16" tire choice?
 

I'm getting a set of wheels that are 16x7+35 up front and 16x8+30 in the rear. I was hoping to run around 225 on the front and 235-245 in the rear. First off, I don't even know if this will fit. Second, I seem to have problems finding performance tires in a 235/245 width for 16" wheels. The Bridgestone potenza S03, the Falken RT615, and the Advan Neovas are only offered up to 225 for 16". My question is how high of a width can I go on each wheel, and what tires might be recommended? I am looking for superb grip, wet performance would be welcome but not necessary. Thanks a lot.

Wheel width and offset are fine.
I'm assuming this is for an FC?

Try checking out the Yokohama A032R's?
They should be available in those sizes no problem.

ahh sorry, yes, this is for an 89 TII. I found a couple of tires that run up to 245, namely the falken fk412 and the bridgestone re750. I just realized that the A032R is a track tire. I'd prefer something just a little more road oriented. Thanks.

The RT615 is basically an R-compound DOT race tire.
The Advan Neova AD-07 is R-compound rubber disguised as a "street tire".
You'd be lucky to get 10,000 miles out of either with spirited driving.

did you look for your size in the bfgoodrich KD or KDw?
or Kumho MX?
there is another Falken Azenis, not the RT615 or 215 but some other more normally tread patterned Azenis that might be available in a 245 or 255 width.

when I looked into 16" wheel setups I was disappointed in the tire selection for anything wider than 235, besides Rcompounds which are available commonly up to 275 in a 16 size. so I went with 17" wheels.

I have not really looked at bfgoodrich. I noticed a few kumho tires as well as the falken fk412 or something in 245 width. I'm curious where you found 235 width tires in 16"? I seem to be able to find absolutely none, as that size seems to be more for light trucks than anything else. If you can find me any decently performing 16" tire in 235, I would be VERY grateful. I'd rather run 235 than 245. Thanks.

you can go up to 245 with 8'' in the back... if i were you since we have similar set ups... 7'' front 8'' back... i would get 245 because without spacers it doesnt look too flush unless its 245s but then again if you want more performance i like it with 225 front and back because they give a more balanced feel but then again its negligible

oh btw if you want to know more about my wheel and tire set up... 16x7 front 16x8 rear bbs 2 piece mesh rims on 225/50/16 all around rt-615's... used to have sp9000's and that were staggered with 225/50/16 front and 245/40/16 rear... and imo i like the feel of the 225/50/16 all around better but then again that may be because i now have rt-615's

i only put about 7k miles on my car each year and i switch out my summer wheels and tires (bbs and falkens) to stock wheels and kumho asx tires so i should get two years out of my 615's and hopefully by the time i need to change my tires on my bbs' they will have ado7's in 16's

how does it look with the same width tire front and back? I was under the impression that staggered setups are good, but if it handles better with 225s all around, I might just get something like falkens. I'm just worried about the rear tire having that VW stretched look. I prefer my tires to have some actual sidewalls :p

if you want a better looks go for bigger tires in the rear... really ask yourself what do you want more... if you want looks more then definately go bigger in the rear

the difference in performance shouldnt be that noticeable anyways...

youll save more money with smaller widths but itll look better with a wider tire its up to you bro

i have a lot grippier tires than i did before maybe thats why theres a difference in handling but if i had to do it again id probably get 225 up front with 245 at back with rt615's because the rear will look a lot more flush with the tires and fenders matching up better

Well, looks are important, but not as important as useability. I would just hate to run a 225 width tire in the rear and get that terrible stretched tire look so prominent on VWs.

It's unfortunate that the rt615s dont seem to come in 245 in the rear. Right now, I'm looking at either Toyos or Fuzion ZRis as a sort of budget summer tire until I overhaul my suspension. After that, the car should probably be rewarded with some Falkens. :)

look into hankook rs2 high quality tire at a good price

and with 225 in the rear it doesnt look stretched

mm yeah, i've actually had these recommended to me. They come in 245 too! :)
