SSR GT2 or comp-H

Hi all.

I've just tried to search but for some reason it won't search for ssr?

O well...

Does any one have any experiance with these rims? I have been doing some reading up and people say they are soft and not realy good for track use? does this sound about right or not?

I have been looking for some rims for a while now and tbh i thought SSR had gone Bump?? but a guy i buy stuff from in Japan has said he can source me a set of 18x9's all round for a good price so i am seriously looking at them.

Offsets, For a stock bodied Fd with a 1" drop would +40 offsets in 18x9 work without rubbing?

Out of intrest which do you think would look better on an a black FD the GT2's or Comp-h?

I had a set of SSR Comps a few years ago and personally never had a problem with them. OTOH, I've heard that, because these wheels are so light, and when combined with a really low profile tire, they would bend from hitting potholes and whatnot when driven on the street. Now, I don't know how big of a pothole or what these people were running over but IMO, you can bend pretty much *any* wheel depending on what you hit. Off the top of my head, I believe "herblenny" and "moehler" were running SSR Comps too so you might want to send them a PM and ask if they had any problems with these wheels.

That said, I'd try to get the 18x9s in a higher offset if possible, +44 and up.

And for a black FD, I'd get the Comps. Here's a pic of them on "herblenny's" car:

i have two sets, one for street, one for track. 17x8.5 front,9.5 rear. no issues in 2 years. i just bought a set of SSR GT7's 18x9.5 +50mm so i can run 285/30's all around for my track only setup.

Out of interest is it just the 10.5's that have the shape to the face or do the 9.5's do the same?

Call me fussy but i just like how they look on the car but didn't really want to go past 9.5" on the front with a stock Body :)

BTW Herblenny, your cars look the nads

Lets see some pics of this please. I've been looking into something like that, but was a concerned about a 285 on a 9.5" inch wheel.

darkslide - can't give ya pics because i returned them to tirerack and got the ssr comps in 18x9.5 +50mm because they are a lighter wheel (these are track only for me). and you don't have to worry about a 285 on a 9.5 inch wheel. check out new grassroots motorsports magazine test. i'll paraphrase from another post i did:

they tested the BFG r1 vs. kumho v710 vs. hoosier a6 vs r888 (the toyo ra1 replacement).
it was perfect test for me because they tried to use 285/30/18's which is what i want to run next season.
weird thing is they used stock rx8 wheels size of 18x 8.
i used to wonder if the hoosier would fit on my 9.5.....well they put it on an 8 inch wheel!!!
so i guess the hoosier would fit mine (tire rack specs says min for hoosier is 10.5 wheel).
then they put the v710 on and it didn't fit! Too wide (tire rack says min is 9.5 for v710). so they used a 245/35/18 instead.
they used a 295/30 for the R888.
v710 had the fastest 10 lap average and the fastest overall lap.
a6 second place. R1 3rd and R888 4th.

i fell in love with the ssr gt2's until i realized that tirerack held the rights to sell the gt2s in its entirety...i hate it how you can't just select a rim/wheel size from tirerack and see the price...why do i have to pick a car...
