Setting coilover spring preload

I have a set of JIC FLT-A2 coilovers and I think I set the preload incorrectly on the springs. The prescribed method is to adjust the lower spring perch to a certain position relative to the spring while the wheel is unloaded, then turn it another quarter turn. What is the "certain position"? Should it be when the perch just barely touches the spring? When the entire perch has contact with the spring? Until the spring is snug and doesn't wiggle? There seems to be a large margin of error for the final quarter turn to make a difference.

LEt's just get them corner weighted when the wheels get here. Rob, that's just the basic/standard preload to set so the springs can break in and in the end get the corner weighting done.

To start from the beginning. Jack the car up. Completely unload the spring. Loosen the perch. Then tighten it to the point that the spring is sandwiched between the tophat and lower spring perch. Then give it a couple twists just to tighten it ever so slightly. At that point you should be okay.

Roger Kraus will take care of the rest.

Thanks, Rishie

Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting it corner weighted, I just wanted to get it close for right now. I guess it's the "sandwiched" part that I'm unclear on. Does that mean "just barely touching the perch on the bottom and the tophat on top", or does it mean "The spring doesn't wiggle at all while the suspension is unloaded"? Sorry for the numb skull.

Uh...nevermind :o:

It was a preload problem.
But I don't wanna talk about it :D

Rishie -- the coilovers are *sweet*.
