Rota Slipstreams
 

Does anyone have any pictures of an FC w/ slipstreams on it?

slipstreams are the same as the spoon something-88's only about 1/3 the price.

I plan on getting them if I cant find another lightweight rim I like in an 8" wide version

I would hope on the rota bandwagon in a second but I thought it wa a 16 x 7 wheel? If it's indeed 16x8 then I'm a very happy person right now :)

nope, they're 16x7" (blows ass IMO) i wish they'd make some decent wider rims nowadays. for 1400 a set you could get custom 3 piece rims made. I want some for 500 delivered like the rota's!

The offset os too high for the FC. We are distributors for Rota so I'd be happy to hook you up but it's not a good fit. You can look at the subzero or any of the other +40 offset wheels.

those are honda/fwd wheels for the most part. Go for Kosei K1 if you want a 16x7.5 or 8 wheel with a better offset.

Isn't there a +40mm offset for the Slipstreams? If so, why doesn't it fit? If that's the case, wouldn't there be a different offset that would work?

They DO make a +40mm offset in our bolt pattern... why won't they fit again??

i have rota circuit 8's on my 86 n/a and they seem to fit fine......

What size/offset?

From what I've seen the Rota slipstream in the 5x114.3 boltpattern comes in a +45 offset while the Circuit 8, subzero, etc... come in a +40 offset.

I'll call Rota tommorrow and double check. No need for sarcasm though. just trying to help.

They also have the subzero in +40 for 16", but not in 17".

i wanted some rota's too but they only come it 45+ and i think i seen the slipstreams in 40+ so they should may be fit

If you wanted to go bigger, they come in 17x8 with a +35mm offset. Which is what Im going to go with.

Here's mine, 15x8's (custom size from 18racing.com) 40mm offset with a 7/16" spacer and 225/50/15 Z211 R comp tires.

They look the same, but their constructions are completely different.

Spoon wheels are repackaged from Regamaster, forged, and light.

Rota wheels are casted, heavier, and cheaper.

you get what you pay for but rota's make good track tires that wont cost you a fortune in case something was to happen...

you don't always get what you paid for, but in this case (Rota versus Regamaster), yes, you do get what you pay for.

Regamster are pure sex. so light, so strong, so simple.

Rota slipstreams (who came up with this name anyways... it has nothing to do with wheels....) ... well... look like Regamasters.... that's about it...

I don't know how much Regamsters weigh, but I've seen quotes of 13.5lbs for 16" Slipstreams. That's pretty light.

use to have a set 17x9, weight around 15lb each without tires. These were the Marquis Promoda models/"street versions." The Evo models/"competition" models weight a few pounds less. Damn, I miss these... Oh yeah, I know nothing of Slipstreams nor Rota... I stay away for my own sake.

Sure they might not be quite as light or maybe not quite as strong, but they're cheap and they make custom sizes in small batches for the enthusiast market, which is great. That's the only reason I could afford 15x8's for track use. I paid $550 for them shipped, vs ~$1500 for a custom set.

Why are you only running a 225 on an 8" wide rim?? You could have done that with the stock 91 NA rims. Why not go for 145's?

Sure I could have done it on stock wheels, but they're only 6" wide (or 6.5" for the 'vert), and to fit those tires on would be a bit of a stretch. I wanted to put as much rubber on the road as I could, and having a wider wheel will put more of the tire on the road and will give better feel. There's not really any options for anything wider than a 225 that doesn't start to get to be a bunch taller than that, and for track use smaller diameter tires are good, they give shorter gearing, a lower CG, will weigh less and will have a lower moment of inertia, giving better acceleration, braking and cornering. Besides, with getting wider than 225's, one typically starts to run into issues with rubbing, and I didn't want to get into that. Those tires were also on sale, and it's hard to argue with $99 R comp tires. Besides, I'm not racing (yet), so all out grip isn't the most important thing, or else I'd be on Hoosiers or something like that.

My next set of track tires (when these wear out) will probably be 225/45/15's.
