Rear end Clunk while shifting.....

I know this question must have been addressed many times, but I thought I would ask it again after reading the search on this symptom. We have a 2nd Gen RX and find this happening...... any experience...with this problem would help I believe.

I have read many conflicting items related to busings, cv joints on the half shafts, something called a PPF??

Thanks for all your help guys..this is one great place for information on a well loved car...

Tim.

You broke the front diff mount most likely. They suck. Replace it and break it again, or weld something like most people do.

yup sounds like a broke diff mount to me. im lucky mine hasnt broken yet :)

Thanks for your reply guys....... I had an opportunity to put the 7 up on the rack today and found that it indeed need some attention. Turns out that it is the front differential mount bracket that bolts to the cross member. The weird clunk was due to the differential having slipped up out of the saddle on the cross member and got lodge forward and onto of the saddle instead of sitting down. This has forced the driveshaft up and is now hitting the underside of the floor and causing the bumping sound when releasing the clutch... bump..bump......... so no big price tag..just a little sweat equity and all should be okay. Now if I could only get the racer out of the driver I think we should be okay in the future.

Thanks for all your help
Tim.

Yeah, that's probably caused by too much street launching during stoplight races...

RXTim 04-06-02 09:00 AM

Too many grey hairs on me and red flashing lights on cars for that to happen to me Sleep..... I attribute it to the fact that we just got the car and a different driving style..........not knowing how to handle the clutch..... and my SONS heavy FOOT........ shifting blame a little

Thanks.
