Potenza RE730 . . . ?
 

Supposedly this the replacements for the RE71, which as I have been told was the stock tire on the non-R1/R2 FD's. First off, were RE71's indeed the stock tires on those cars? Second off, does anyone have Potenza RE730's?

When judging by the numbers they seem like they're better than the Dunlop S8000's currently on all four corners, but real world experience is alway a plus.

I have no REAL world experience with them, but this is what I've heard. Supposedly the RE730's are better in the rain then RE71's, and they last a little longer than the RE71's, but the overall performance on dry ground isn't as good as the RE71's.

My FD came with Bridgestone S-07's...(my old R1 anyways when I bought it from the dealer)

Ok RE730's...not a real bargin in my book...priced to close to S03's..might as well spring for the S03's..

Know here is my experience with them...
1. Average grip
2. Nice agressive tread pattarn
3. Good treadlife (300)
4. Kinda loud on the road.
5. Never drove them in the rain..no comment

With all that said...I'd purchase S03's for the price that I would be paying for RE730's

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into those S-03's. By the way, what's the deal with tirerack.com? It would seem to me that ordering tires would end up in a huge shipping cost. Good for reference, though.

A few of the Cincy guys, incluing me have the RE730. A very good tire and a great value. About $110 a piece.

Pretty sure tirerack has got a deal with UPS or whoever they use....to keep shipping cost way down..

I have them, I think they're fine, but my only other tires on my fd have been a set of bald firestones. I keep hearing that they're loud, but they're a lot quieter than what I had on before.

I opted for them over the S-03's because I couldnt find S-03s for my car at a comparable price, and Costco got the tires for me and mounted them for about 520 for all 4 corners. Took them about a week to get them in.

RE71s were never the stock tire for any of the FD Rx7s. RE71s served as prototype tires for the Expedia S-07s which came stock with all '93 R1s (based on what I read in Yamaguchi's book).

I've had the RE71s, and those dogs stuck like mad in the dry. I easily ran with other FD Rx7s shod with BFG R1s at the MADS '99 @ Summit Point during a dry Saturday. Sunday of MADS '99, it poured down rain--and I stayed out, while the BFG R1 guys called it a day. RE71s were great tires, and for $85 each for 225/50-16, they were an absolute steal. I got 10,000 miles out of my set. It's too bad they're no longer available!

NO experience with the RE730. I agree with Johnny Bling Bling. I'd spring for the new S-03s!
