Which tire model? "Kumho Ecsta" has several different variations. If you are referring to the MX, those are widely liked and used by RX7 owners. Extremely good tire for the money, especially when considering it's age.

Just FYI, Kumho should be releasing their MX replacement later this year:

I'm not a big fan of MX's. I had them on a G35 coupe I had a couple years ago, and they had no grip in wet conditions. Dry grip was lacking considering lack of wet grip. I like RT-615s much better, as they have much better grip in dry although they suck in wet... but it's no worse than MX.

Are you sure you had the MX's? A friend of mine tested both the MX and 615's at the track (same care, same setup for both tires). He basically ran very similar lap times, however the MX was more predictable as the tires heated up. Given that the MX has better wet performance, he preferred it over the 615's. The old Kumho Ecsta 711's are horrible.

Feel free to search my user name. I've posted about them at least 20 times. DamonB had some good feedback as well.

Mx is a great tire for the $$. My only complaint would be the soft sidewalls which have a "squirmy" feeling on the track.

Yeah. But I guess I didn't like them as much as RT615s because the MXs were on G35 coupe and RT615s were on STi. So I guess the STi's handling capabilities made the RT615s seem much better than MXs. I still think MXs lack wet grip, though.

I have had both MX and 615's. The 615's are stickier, but maybe a lil worse in wet conditions IMO

They were about the same price for either tire.

I don't think the SPTs are a suitable tire an aggressively-driven FD.

What sizes are you looking at, and what's your budget?

For those type of characteristics, I would recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.

265x35x18 rear and 225x40 front, budget? $250 or less per tire

Check out Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R. Should fit that price range in those sizes (at least on Tirerack).
