Opinions on rims (FD3S)
 

Was looking around for some rims, and was thinking about either going with some rota slipstreams, or some tenzo r tracer wheels. any opinions?

also do you guys think these offsets would be good? First time searching for rims for a 7, so not sure what offset to go with

For starters, please don't put a 7" wide rim on the FD. The stock size is 16x8 so at least start with 8" for the width and go up from there (not down).

What's your budget? I recommend saving up for some proper high quality wheels for your FD.

16x7 knockoff wheels meant for a Honda are probably not the way to go ;)

makes sense. That's why I ask these questions. I am coming from Honda, all those rims are small.

yea Im looking into CE28N's also prefer to be 17.9 square setup! running 255/40r17 on Toyo R888. My question would be on the offset cause I know I will need wider fenders for the front to runs the 9s.

17x9 with 255/40 tires will fit in the front with stock fenders, depending on the offset, you might or might not need to roll the fenders

decide what you think looks good and find the specs. that should get you started

You can run a 10 inch wheel with 285/30-18 tire on the front with OEM fenders...... been done many many times over the years. Recommend a roll however.

What about the rear? I'm looking to go 18x10 with 285/(30,35,40?)/18 if I can ever find a cheap set of Gram Lights 57pros.

Also, will a lower profile cause me to lose traction?

Not specifically. It's more about tire pressures and compound. Remember, the wider tire the thicker the profile at any given rate. With a 285, a 30 series has a bit more meat than the "G" ride wheels you see at a 30 profile. Its because they don't have that width.

I run a 285/30/18 on the rear at 28psi. At my power level, my Hankook EVO-14's do pretty well in the warm weather. I light them up in 3rd anything below 70 deg ambient. I will likely move to a more quality tire when it comes time to replace.

I will add with the Gram Lights, pay attention to weight. I almost went with them and was advised against it by a few FD wheel dealers. Apparently, they are known for being on the heavy side, which of course defeats the purpose of buying quality wheels. My Work Meisters 18x9's weigh 17lbs each, and the 18x10's are 18lbs. You definitely want to shoot for sub 20lbs in that size. I saw it with my friends supercharged Mustang. He bought a set of Foose 20x10's and it felt like he dropped 50whp. Rotational mass is exponentially draining when it comes to power.

Well the reason I wanna run square setup is because of tire cost since only reason I use the FD is on the track. I run Petitt Racing
Track Pro 3 F12kg R10kg with Kirk Racing cage/roll cage.

rx74evers, I use 17x9 all around on the street with a +43 for the offset (with 255's). My car is lowered so it rubbed the front and required a fender roll. On the rear, I use a 5mm spacer just to add a little more aggressive look (effectively a +38 with the spacer). There are no changes to the rear fender areas. If those were my track wheels, I would remove the spacer for the track days.

Will it be better to just replace the front fenders with wider ones like the Feed or Shine? or with those I wonder if we can even run 9.5 or 10s with the right camber!

Are those with the Volk CE28N's? I cant decide with RPF1 or cough up the cash for some Volks.

Personally, I would probably just do a slight pull on the stock fenders (by a body shop) if you need the extra clearance. However, do you really need that much rubber up front on the track? You can see Sandro running 15x10 all around:

No. Not sure it matters...as long as they're 17 x 9 +48... they will fit w/255/40s on street (-1.0 f / - .3r) camber settings....no rolling, maybe 3/4" lower than stock ride height. It also keeps your speedometer accurate.
