Yes, I've done searches but I haven't found anything that gives me a definitive answer.

I'm considering either 16x7 or 16x8 inch wheels for my 1988 GTU. I know if I stick with 16x7 and 205/55-16s I can run the stock offset no problem. What I'm wondering is if I should go up to a 225/50-16, and if so, if I should go to a 16x8 and what offset I'd need to run.

Is your car lowered? I'd run a 225/45/16 up front if you can find that size and a 225/50 in the rear. That's if you're lowered.

You'll want around a +35 offset on a 8" width. Maybe a tad bit higher. I'll check on monday or something. I have some FD wheels with that size I can fit onto my FC and see what kind of backspacing we're looking at.

With the stock 16" wheel, which is 40mm offset, you can barely use 222x50's (Only in certain makes). If you go to an 8" with a 35mm offset you'll be moving the wheel @ 1/2" closer to the strut...No Good without a spacer. To keep the same distance from the strut you'll need a 27mm offset. Depending what type/size tire you're going to use, you could go a few mm more.
I'd stick with 7" and go wider in rear.

Not lowered yet but it will be. I have a deal right now where I'll be getting some wheels for free - if that happens there'll be no worries cause the style I'm looking at is a 16x7, and from what I understand I shouldn't go above a 205mm section width on that rim size?

If the deal falls through I'll be looking to buy some wheels and in that case I've got other choices. It's a 50/50 thing right now but I want to be prepared.

When the offset is higher that means the wheel is pushed in more. The lower the offset the farther out it will be.

I've run +40, +37, +35, and +31 offsets on 8" width. I'd reccommend a 225/45 up front.
