Thanks black91n/a. I was mostly worried about fender rubbing on the front, with the stock suspension (other than than AGX struts). I assume you haven't had any rubbing problems, then. The cheapest 17x8's with 35 offset I've found are new 5's at about $200 each, and I'd rather not spend that if the Mustang rims will work.

I've had trouble locating centering rings for them. Is it 67.06 x 70.5 mm that I'm looking for? Do you use metal or plastic ones? I've heard of one guy (with a BMW M3) that melted his plastic ones on a track day, but never heard of anyone melting theirs at an autocross.

 

I've had my car on track with the GT wheels at Spokane Raceway Park for a 2 day school with Falken FK-451's in 225/45/17 and a 100% stock suspension and they never rubbed. I've also autocrossed with them and a stock suspension and Racing Beat Sways, and I've also used Kumho SPT's at the autocross and I've never had it rub, ever. I wouldn't go more than a few mm in either direction as the clearance on the spring and strut is very small, as is the fender clearance.

I've got plastic centering rings that I just picked up from a local tire store that also sells aftermarket wheels. Phone a few places, they should be able to order some for you. My rings never melted, and that's with a 2 day driving school with 2 drivers (out on track about half the time). I wouldn't worry about getting metal ones.

The ARP studs are good insurance, as there's only about 70% of the minimum thread engagement standard with the stock studs and it could be dangerous. The fronts are relatively easy to do, but to do the rears you need to take the hubs off (I had mine put in when I had the rear wheel bearings replaced, it was a conveniant time for it to happen .

 

So is there anyone who can help me here?

I have a good idea that the 17x8 +35mm Offsets on front will work,
I just worry about the 17x9's with 45mm offsets in the rear?
Would this offset stick out too far past fender and or need spacers to set it the tirhgt distance out?!

I don't think the 8.0", +40 will fit up front - you'll need a spacer...at least 1/4" or 6mm or more.

Rears fit no problem, although they will not be flush with the fender well.

If you do with a 8.0" wide wheel, please go with a 225 / 50 / 16 tire minimum!

That's just about perfect.

Go with the 225 / 50 / 16 size tires!
More rubber on the ground means more fun for you!

Fronts are no problem.
The rears I think are a little too deep and need a spacer to clear the insides.

225 / 45 / 17 up front not a problem.
You might be able to go with a 235 / 40 / 17 or 235 / 45 / 17 slightly wider tire.

Rears minimum 255 / 40 / 17 on a 9.0" wide rim.
I like the way the 255 wide tire on a 9.0" rim looks.

Hard to say, cause I dunno what size tires you're going to run?

If you're going to try a 245 wide tire up front with the 8.5" wide, then I can almsot guarantee you'll need to roll the fender.

I know the physical 9 inch wheel will fit under the wheel well its the offset im worried a bout
from my math it will be too far into the wheel well and will need spacers :s
but i dont know exactly thats the problem...

 

well...it depends....i was thinkin of going with the 20mm fenders up front...

I may end up going with an 8.5" all the way around rather than going to the 9.5 in the rear. I was gonna try to stuff 255's in the rear on the rears...

 

We run 9.0", +35 out back with 225 / 40 / 17 tires all the time no problem.
I think you can go down to +40, but the +45 is just too deep for me.
So, at the very least you're looking at the +5 or about 1/4".
The problem with the rears is the stock wheel studs are SHORT.
So even with the 1/4" spacer, you might not have enough lug nut engagement to be safe.
For street set-up, you can just swap a set of stock front wheel studs (fronts are longer - go figure), but if you're racing on these wheels, I'd highly recommend ARP studs.

255 / 40 / 17 will fit no problem.

I got one havnt posted on here for a while lol. What is the largest Tire you would suggest running front and back on FD rims on my FC. I have JIC coil overs so there seems to be a bit more clearance behind the rim from the coilovers. Any input??

i just came up on some money and want to buy wheels for my STOCK 90 fc gxl.

i got stock suspension and want the widest WHEEL with the smallest(cheapest) tire combination with the best offset. looking for 17" or 18". i want to fill the stock fenders to the fullest.

rubbing will not be a problem becuase i will soon upgrade to kyb shocks(the adjustable ones) with stock spring and camber plates for full ride height, full stiffness, and camber adjustability, if that helps.

whats the best combination? it doesnt have to be legal...

Will 3000gt wheels fit a vert? 16x8 with a +46 offset 5x114.

 

I think Volk Racing uses this designation.
It used to be only "hi disc" and "low disc", but it turned into high / medium / low.
This is used mostly for brake disc clearance, especially up front.
But in turn, it also dictates lip depth...

This is similar to the stock FD wheels -> 16" x 8", +50.
They will fit in back, but they will not fit up front without large spacers.

I am assuming I will have to roll the rear fenders. I have seen one guy with 275s on 17x8 (mustang rims) with rolled fenders. I just wanna a wider rim that would better fit the 275s.
