Nitto NT555R Drag Radials~!~!
 

do any of you guys use these tires for street use? i was wondering how well these tires handle. i am thinking about putting them on me FD. anybodys thoughts or opinions would be appriciated.

Nitto is very high performance tire.
Almost all the fast dragger use Nitto in Japan except Drag slick.
They drive on them with Nitto to Drag course.
No problem for street.
As for performance, Hoosier is better.
But in Japan, it isn't allowed to use for races by regulation.

555R work great,most people cant run BF on their car do to rubbing isues and well they look ugly.....

Get yourself a extra set of stock rims and put on some MT ET Streets for way way way better 60 foot times.. wait, i got a set for sale..... if your interested. Had a set of nittos I sold for my brother who had them on his mustang. He said they SUCKED!! He went with the BFG's and they made a big differance. But if looks are more important than go with the nittos. The BFG's kinda have that Muscle car look..

the reason why i ask is because i will be using these tires for everyday use (not in the rain and my 7 is my weekend car that i drive like once a week) i was just wondering how well they handled on twisty paved roads.

My friend has a set of 555R's on the back of his modded 95 5.0. The tires hook VERY well on the street if they have some heat in them. They also grip very well for corner-carving. In the dry, its nearly impossiable for my friend to do donuts with the 555R's on, and he has 4.10's.

His have also held up very well. The tires came off his Dad's 470+ rwhp stang and still have tread left on them. This is after about 6 months on his car, with a Open-Track day at Buttonwillow raceway, and multiple drag passes, plus daily driving duties for a couple weeks.

Just know that they absolutly SUCK in the rain and when they are very cold.

are the nitto tires like a normal tire or are they soft sidewalls that buckle for drags?

they have normal sidewalls
unless u get the slicks

they're a great fair weather tire. They'll hook great on the street with a little heat in them and you'll get decent mileage out of them. I had a set of 315s on my WS6 and they worked great on the street.

Nitto has a new road race tire coming out based on the 555R DR. I believe it is called the 555R II. It has the same tread pattern as the 555R with a soft rubber, but it comes with a stiff sidewall for handling and road race use. Check it out. Thats what is going on my car when it is finished.

Warning: As with all DRs, they suck in the rain and when cold outside. It can be scary out there with them in bad weather. really scary... stay at home scary

As for driving to the track and having the convenience of not changing tires at the track (you wouldn't be able to transport tires comfortably in a FD anyways) or racing in the drag slicks only catagory at some tracks, then I would definitely suggest using a DOT slick tire like nitto 555DR or BFG. But for everyday driving I would highly recommend using a road racing tire. Driving around town will keep them warm enough to grip very well, so you don't have to do a highly suspicious burn out at a traffic light where a cop in a 5 block radius can hear you. It is also a lot safer and a lot more fun to drive around due to the handling capabilities. After all, you may have to make a sudden turn while street racing and FD's are made for cornering and not so much drag racing, so keeping your FD in one piece is the ultimate goal. Also, just in case it starts pouring, road racing tires are awesome in the rain.

i was thinking of getting a really grippy tire like the nitto but i also want one that has a super hard sidewall... this is still my road car... i dont care if its really crappy in bad weather.... can anybody help me decide on a tire that could be good!? thanks?

Toyo Proxis T1 Race offer great traction wet or dry, stone sidewalls and tread that last longer than most others (Yokohama, Kuhmo and BFG). If anyone finds a better tire, please tell me.

I just order some Yokohama AVS Intermediate from tirerack couldn't beat the price for tire that I will only have a year until I get nem wheels. Just wouldn't try to drive too much in the rain.
