Mesh or 5 Spoke
I am trying to decide on a set of new wheels for my red FD and I am not making any head way. I can't decide between Mesh or multi spoke, hyper black or silver. Everything seems to look good on an FD. What do you guys think will complement the car the best and will emphasize those beautyful lines. Any pics would be appreciated or a point to a threat with lots of pics. Tried several searches but didn't find much.

black mesh

5 spoke wheels are easier to clean then mesh wheels, but allow more of the rotor and caliper to be seen(may be a concern if you have factory brakes).

Besides above rationale, 5-spokes are classic while mesh wheels are more modern -pick what you like.

Me likey mesh.....
Just posted this on another thread, but here's RGRs on mine, and you're in luck since we color match:

These BBS look awesome. What finish are they. I put HREs 540 on my bimmer and love the look. Not sure if I should go Mesh again and want to spent that much money. I saw some threat earlier trashing the ADR Msport. They make those in hyper black which should look sweet. They are probably very heavy but not cheap as some people made them out to be.

As stated earlier (edit - as stated earlier on a different thread, so nevermind), these are the diamond black, aka 'plasma'. They are the same wheel you find on the Spirit R's in Japan, but with BBS center caps. I LOVE THEM, and they are not that hard to clean. 5 spokes are easier, but there is not a big difference because the mesh on this is fairly large, so I can get my hand all the way through.
Good luck on your decision - it took me 4 years before I made up my mind! |
my bad..thanks anyway

Thanks so much...I know if I had a black FD, I would jump on the black 5 spoke. I like your look for the red, C2s aren't they? and certainly the RGR in diamond black.
Thanks again |

Thank you ..... the lip on the back rim is good at catching the drool, but do be careful not to get any on the paint.
:D |
how much were those RGR's and where did you get them?
|
I got them from these folks:
Wheel Source ~ 2700 shipped with locking lug nuts, new lug nuts, and shod with Toyo Proxes that were high speed balanced. Took around 8 weeks since they had to come from Japan. |
And I bet they were worth every penny.
I have 17x9 BBS RXes on my FC. (Ok, ok, technically they're sitting on my bedroom floor. But they're close to being on.) |
Funny, last time I saw you you were sitting at the helm of the USS Enterprise, thanks to Amur. :)
Yes, they were worth every penny. I REALLY need the extra rubber in the back to harness the power of the T04S (I have 9.5r and 8.5f). The Toyo's are very quiet and have a nice grip. I was a little hesitant about them because the Cam Worth found them to not last very long on his GT car at Laguna Seca, but I think those conditions are a bit different than what I drive daily. Get your new shoes on the car, Commander Riker! Watch for rubbing and if you have coil-overs don't be afraid to raise the car a bit until you can verify clearance. I unfortnately grabbed just a bit of fender when I put these on (good thing the paint is pretty much shot anyways) and had to do a little pounding on the fender lip as well as raise the car about 3 turns in the front and 2 in the back. |
Yeah. Even though I'm just going with the hybrid setup I should be putting a good deal of power to the ground, so 255s in the back will help, I hope.
I don't have any suspension mods yet, but I figure the stock springs are sagging pretty good, heh. Anyway, they should clear the suspension fine. Might protrude 1/4 of an inch out in the rear, but the fronts will be fine because of my yet-to-be-recieved corksport fenders. I actually haven't decided if I'm going to put the wheels on with stock suspension, or wait until I get bushings and springs and shocks and everything. (Then there's an additional problem: I'll probably get tuned before that, but do I really want to run around town with 370rwhp and 185mm wide tires? Heh.) Victor |
Im likeing the mesh wheels a lil more.. but the 5 spolks are plane jane... and will still have ya car lookin good... i say the mesh!
