MazdaComp SS Braided Lines Question
 
Hello,

I recently bought this part# 0000-03-7218 for $59.95
It is the Goodridge SS Braided Brake Lines.
I saw a few people here mention that it has plastic covering over it to prevent sands or stuff entering the SS braiding.

The one I received does not have it.

I am wondering if anyone recently bought and what kind do they received.

I have the same one...no coating...other models from Goodridge has the coating...

I am going to head out to the hardware store on mon (closed today).....

There is plasticoat spray that is used to coat tools (kinda like on the end of pliers) that someone on the forum mentions worked great...I'll post a review after I try it out...

I found out today that the M spring is missing on the left front ones.
Does anyone knows the part number of this for 1993 RX-7.
I look at parts number PDF, and it only mention pin. I need the spring not pin. This is the part number in question: FD01-33-696
I also think that springs are included in the pad set # FDZ3-33-23Z
I just want the spring, don't want to spend >$50 for pad I don't need.

You should be able to just order the hardware kit for the front brakes ('93 to '95 FD). This kit includes the M-springs and shims. If you're referring to the Type RS/RZ brake caliper M-springs ('99), there's no other way to get the M-springs except for ordering the Sumitomo Type RS/RZ front pad set, which are OUTSTANDING road/track pads BTW :) Highly recommended for US spec FDs...they'll fit the US spec calipers... :) Low dust, good cold bite, and even better track performance (with minimal dusting)!

I have stock brake. So the RZ pads will fit the stock brake? Cool, I am gonna get this next, I just bought the HP+ pads.

What I am missing is the big M-spring that hold the pads in, not the M-spring that hold the pins in.
I am confused, because I went to Mazda Formance website, and I saw on photo that the big and small M-spring are included with the pads, while the hardware kit only contains shims, pins and M-spring to hold the pins in place.

Do you know the part number to get from MazdaMotorsports? or any other source?

Hmm...maybe that's the case...memory fading out...I know for sure the Type RS/RZ pads come with the M-springs that fit the Type RS/RZ calipers, so...maybe you'll need to order the US spec Sumitomo pads for US spec FD Rx7 to get the M-springs? No part numbers handy at the moment. Brian or Tim should be able to help when you; call them at Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development.

Hehe...I tried. too bad they are closed today for MLK.
Man, I am anxious to finnish the car before track event on Saturday...

I also having problem pushing the piston back. I need one of those piston spreader for 4 piston caliper.

Any trick? I search but only found that people pushed them somehow.

Leave the pad in on one side of the caliper. The other side, pull the pad out. Get a couple of 20-mm socket wrenches. Work each piston applying pressure alternating pressure points on the pistons so as to not get the pistons stuck. They come down eventually. Once the caliper pistons collapse on one side slide the new pad in. Remove the other old pad, and repeat the procedure with the socket wrenches until both pads are in.

Aha!!...Smart... Thank you very much for the advice. Now all I need is to look for the M-spring. can I do without it?

One more question:
Do I change braided lines first or flush with new fluid, change lines, and bleed?

need m-spring to keep the pads spread apart on the caliper. change the braided lines first then, flush with new fluid...

Ok found it....

I just bought this can today....

check the website out at www.plastidip.com

I got the clear color....they have black, white, red, purple and yellow...

I'll try the first coat tomorrw

okay...also missing is the shims. only the shims with arrow is in place. don't know who did the brake before the car is mine. no wonder its fading last time.
any problem missing shims?

7racer...let me know the result. I guess I need to cover the ends right? :)

The shims help with heat-resistance. The brake hardware kit should have those?

Note the RS/RZ pads will have M-springs that fit the LARGER Type RS/RZ front calipers. The M-springs won't fit the US spec calipers...

I was told that people who raced actually removed the M-springs.
They said it was fine without the spring. The spring would just seperate the pad more, without it, the pad would still separate, and wont touch the rotors.

I seem unable to place order with mazdacomp. Can't login in the last couple hours.

Looks like the brake issues and doctor wanting me to go easy on my right hand will prevent me from going to track on Saturday.

Ok Reza,

i don't have any pics but here are my thought on the plastidip stuff...

1) hold the can closer than what it recommends (about 2 inchs) when applying

2) I bought the clear so it was hard to see where I missed at first but after a couple coats no problems....

3) it dulls the finish but you can clearly see the stainless steel

4) when applied its not totally smooth....but it does but a nice coat on it....

Does that make sense??

Cool. I won't do it though, I will just replace and monitor it every year...or each brake bleed.

I got the RZ pads and shims today. It came with all the springs needed. No pins, but all springs and shims.
Not knowing that, I also ordered the brake hardware kit. This kit came with 2 straight springs to hold the pins and all the shims.
So now, I have more shims than I ever want/need ? :))
New shims are nice...not like the old one. The old ones looks like bbq pit.
