Max performance tires
 

Hi all - from what I found, most of the tire threads are 10+ years old. Wanted to start a discussion on tires for a summer only car that will see 1-3x Autocross events per year in the stock class (I guess that's street now). In the next 5-7 months I think I will be looking to replace my tires for next summer. So far, I have seen the following. I don't trust reviews on manufacturer or dealer websites so I was wondering if folks here whom have experience with multiple of the listed models could chime in? I am looking to install on stock 16x8" wheels.

Treadwear =>200, =<$150 ea, 225/50/16
Toyo Proxes R1R - $150 ea
Khumo Ecsta V720 - $146 ea
Dunlop Direzza ZIII - $133 ea
Hankook Ventus R-S4 - $125 ea
Falken Azenis RT615k+ - $112 ea

My priorities are grippy, quiet, treadwear (not made of money) in that order. Car is 99% on street (<1k miles/yr) and a few Solo II events to maintain Mazda Motorsports membership.

Those are all good tires for the street if racing isn't the priority.

The R1R work best in the cold and the wet, so it is probably an ideal street tire (not in danger of overheating and chunking it on the street).

RS-4 likes some heat, so its more of a street tire that can survive track days without chunking.

The others are somewhere in between for heat.

I haven't heard anything on the Direza ZIII yet.

I wouldn't even consider the Falken 615K+ unless its a good deal less $ than the others. Federal RS-R and RS-RR, Maxxis VR-1, Achillies ATR-K are all cheaper than the Falken and faster.

Thank you very much for your input. I was leaning toward the Falken's because they were priced much less than seemingly competing tires.

The tire to have for 200 treadwear is re-71R, but they do wear quickly.

I'm pretty impressed with the Kumho v720. Not loud at all like the reviews. Was substantially cheaper than Rs4's where i am and grip and handle a lot better than the outgoing rs3's i was on. As mentioned i would stay away from the Falkens. I had a set years ago and they were useless.
