Looking for New Tires
 

Yes i have searched and looked @ the Wheel/Tire section but no opionins or different set ups. Wanna get new tires for 7 Stock next month, I have searched on Tire Rack, and found these tire sizes that are good for the buck and good performance. There all 225/50/15
Will i run into suspension problems, Tire rubbing or any fitting problems

Tell me what U guys think i should get. O yeah forgot to mention price not a problem. I'm looking for a good performance tire and wanna keep my stock rims on also. 89 GXL rims

With the stock rims you're likely to encounter rubbing with 225's, but being 50 series will help. I'd stay away from the A048. Don't get me wrong, they're good tires, but they're race tires, and will wear out really quickly on the street. They'll also loose a lot of grip as they age, due to all the heat cycles they'll go through. The BFG KD's are really good street tires, definetely a step or two above the ES-100, which are well regarded and will last longer and have better wet weather performance. The A022A's are quite soft as well and will wear out quickly.

Tires are a very personal thing, the best tire for you depends on the intended use. If you post what you want from the tires it'll be easier to reccomend one.

I recently got new tires. i had yokohama paradas that were worn before i even got the car, very good tires though, i now have kumho escatas (all season), i think they are about the cheepest best tire you can find, look them up. they have a good treadware rating too i think 340 or something

Yeah i kinda figured that with the A048 from the looks of the treads lol. I live in Fort Irwin CA in the High desert area which gets rain like 10X a year. I'm looking for a good performance tire, good grip and long lasting tire wear, occasional 3 hr drives down to the local Drift races. Plus i wanna upgrade form the stock 205/60/15 style tires, more aggressive look.

I have an '86 GXL with the stock 15" alloys. What's the widest tire I can fit on there and not have it look stupid or rub?

yep thats them, i have the "711" i was in a money pinch at the time but, they are prety nice tires really, the yokohama paradas are twize as expensive and i don't see how they were any better honestly

Well I think i will go with the Kumho ECSTA AST. They look more aggressive than the 711's.

ya they do look more agressive, you sould be fine with the 50

I don't really know for sure whether or not they'll rub. Many people have rubbing problems with stock offsets and 225 width full height tires. The lower height helps, but some small spacers would fix any rubbing that you might encounter.

I've heard many bad things about 711's I wouldn't get them.

Good performance and long life are pretty much mutually exclisive, you can't have them both, but you can make a compromise and get pretty good handing and pretty good life.

Falken Zeix ZE-512's are good, you might also want to look at BFG g-Force Sports, Dunlop SP Sport 9000's, Toyo T1-R's and the Kumho ASX's.

For life and low $ I'd get the BFG g-Force Sports, for performance I'd get the KD's.

Kumho doesn't make ASX's in 225/50R15. If you don't care about wet or snow performance, just look at high performance summer tires. I've heard the AST's are pretty good in the dry, but suck in the wet; they are also know to feel "slippery."

I have BRIDGESTONE RE750's and they're great! Last longer than all of those that were mentioned, and stick pretty well to the asphault. On the expensive side though. Just another option for you.

what did you hear abotu the 711's? why arent they any good and for what application arent they good for?

Well I hear that they're ok as general use tires, but for any kind of performance driving they suck. Soft sidewalls, low grip, poor handling and so on. Some people seem to like them, but I suspect they've got little to no base of comparison for real high performance tires. The 712 is said to be much better than those, and the 712's get some pretty mixed reviews themselves. From what I've read and experianced there's not much of anything good for cheap. I've got SPT's and they're pretty damned good, especially for the price, but I wouldn't want to go any more down market than that, any further down and it gets pretty crappy pretty quick.

Remember, tires are the only thing connecting the car to the road, spend money on getting good tires. Cheap tires will hurt every aspect of performance and could even be dangerous (poor construction causing blowouts, delamination, etc).
