Largest width wheels/tires on FC(17" rims)

Basically it says it all in the topic. I want to know with 17" rims, what is the largest width tire/wheel combo I can go? Thanks. If you know the offset let me know please.

On my car I have 18x8, +30 mm offset up front with 225/40/18. In the back I have 18x9, +30 mm offset with 275/35/18. The rears rubbed the fenders a little. So I had to roll them. If I had gone with +35 mm they probably would have fit ok. When you go wide in the rear you have to worry about rubbing the trailing arms.

My friend has 255's in the back of his car on 17's, and they fit well. You can probably squeeze 235's up front if you pick the right offset. My 225's up front don't rub, but if I go wider they'll probably rub the fenders.

So do you think 17x8 with 255/40 will fit in back good?

If you have the right offset it should work out well. Try an offset between +30 and +35 mm.

So 40 or 45 offset won't work? I have seen some wheels I like in those offsets. Can you get any offset or do they just offer what they want? Thanks.

With +40 mm you may be able squeeze 245's in there, but with +45 I wouldn't go past say 235's. It depends alot on the tires you choose as well. What wheels are you interested in?

I was interested in the Konig Tantrums in 17x8 in back or the Konig Sub zero but I only seen them in 17x7.5. Do you know how wide of tires I can fit on 17x7.5? Thanks.

245's should fit well.

A 17x9 with a offset of 38 will fit perfectly in the back with a 255/40. I have tried this on my t2 so I know it will fit for sure. Also in the front, a 17x8 with a 38 offset will fit a 235/40, I have also tried this and know for sure it will fit

So 17x9 with 255/40s fit in back huh. Thats good to hear someone with experience. Anyone know the widest tire that will fit 17x8? Can I get 255s on them? Thanks.

Go with Trinity's reccommendation. We run 18,9.5 in the rear with a +35 - +38 mm offset. In the front I run anything from a 17,8 with a +30 - +40. Depending on which offset you use you can run a 225/40/17 up front or 225/45 or 235/40. I typically will not run an 18 in the front as it does not keep the proportions even unless you do a body kit up front or tuck the car. Will look better on 89 and up due to different moldings etc.

I run all these sizes, but I do not run more than a 265/35/18 in the rear as I try to stay as near to stock O.D. as possible.

These offsets have been tested and fitted several times by us with both Ground Control and Tokiko Setups.

Good Luck, Rishie

GET A LIGHTWEIGHT WHEEL. You'll learn to appreciate the advantages in performance and ride. Later you will wish you had sacrificed a little on style to cut down a lot of weight. The difference is remarkable in handling and acceleration. IT is an RX-7 afterall. WEIGHT WAS AND IS EVERYTHING.

i feel like adding a couple of cents worth in here, it is all very well putting a 245 or 255 tyre on to a 9 inch wide rim, but it you do some testing and think about this for a little you'll find that you will actually put more rubber onto the road running a slightly thinner tyre.

i have a set of 17x8 for road rims on them i have 215/40's on the front and 235/45's on the rear, the front tyres fit flat, wher e as the rear tyres are slightly curved. with normal tyre pressure the 215's are actually putting more rubber width onto the road than the 235's are.

Ryde _Or_Die 10-17-01 11:46 AM

Hmm...good point HWO. The widest I want to get is 17x9 in back & I am just wondering how wide of tires I can fit on 17x8 & 17x9 back there. I don't want no 17x7 like all the eclipses & civics. I want some wide tires to put my RWD to use.

I tried to delete this, after I realized it was for the FC, and I osted in regard to my FD. So please ignore.
