Kumho Ecsta 711: Opinion?

Anyone has any experience/review/opinion/comments with Kumho Ecsta 711 on street/autox/track/drift?
Considering the 245/45/16 with stock FD wheel; the price is cheap $55/each.

Soft, sloppy sidewalls.

They're ok for street driving, but not when pushed to the limits. For only a couple dollars more you can get the 712s. thats what I have on my FC. It is still a "bargain" tire, so its not going to perform as well as one priced twice as much, but Ive heard they are pretty good, and alot better than the 711s.

reza 05-26-04 10:56 AM

I heard horror stories on the 712. But if the 712 is better, well then this 711 is worse than 712.

Fatman0203 05-26-04 11:59 AM

Michillen Pilot Sports? Aren't those a bit better. What conditions is this for too?

TracyRX7 05-26-04 01:53 PM

Since Pilot Sports cost about 4x as much per tire as the 711s I'd expect them to perform better.

Personally I think tires are one of the cheapest upgrades you can do to your car. I'm a Yokohama fan. You can get the AVS Sports for $137 or the AVS ES100 at $97 (tire rack prices). If you are looking for a quiet tire stay away from the Yokos though.

Kumho MX hands down. Carl

reza 05-26-04 08:42 PM

I had Yoko ES100 then Kumho MX.
But those are expensive to burn....
I wish they come out with 245/45/16 for the Kumho MX.
I hate running 225/50/16 on the MX.

Whats the average price on the Pilot Sports?

DanielQ 05-27-04 11:26 AM

I have had a set of 712 for a month or so and I liked them a lot. My Rex is out of commision now. I would be willing to swap them for yours plus $200. Where do you live? I'm in Tampa, FL.

Everyone, including me, thinks 'too much' :D

DAharon 05-28-04 02:34 PM

After I burnt up two of my 712's on my Ford Probe I was low on money and put a pair of those 711's on the front. They were the worst tires I ever bought.

potatochobit 06-17-04 12:45 PM

pilot sports are 180+ at least. 225$ for the good sizes i think, last i checked was a while ago.

so kumho MX is the best budget tire?

Re: Kumho Ecsta 711: Opinion?

Junk. Had a set in 225/50-ZR16. Not very much grip wet/dry. Great for drifting. The upshot? Z rating was good. Did a top speed run on these tires.

/agree

They came on my car when I got it. They are the worst tire I have ever had on any car I have had. They may be fine in a non-performance use but not on an rx7.

i agree on the es100's stay away from kuhmos street tires.

soyo 06-21-04 08:22 PM

what about the kumho kh11's?

rex4x 06-23-04 12:01 PM

they're not that bad... I have the Z rated p245-45-r16, for the money they're awesome. $55 for a Z rated is a pretty good price, but I wouldn't buy them again :)

speeddemon7 06-23-04 03:48 PM

how do the kumhos compare to the falken ziex 502 wheels? Because I have them on y rx7 and it holds the road very well. They suck on snow but rain they handle fairly well or as much as can be expected in wet conditions.Unless there are better tires than these I think I will stick with falkens.Anyone have any opinions.Im very curious as to whether there are better tires out there for the price.

soyo 06-23-04 04:06 PM

falken azenas are better... don't know how the price compares though

speeddemon7 06-23-04 04:07 PM

how are the azenis on other than dry conditions though? I cant justify buying a dry weather only tire. The ziex 502 are supposedly all weathers.

soyo 06-23-04 10:27 PM

no clue how they handle in wet weather...

3RotorRocket 06-24-04 12:30 PM

I have had these tires and have em now.

There great for street use and handle well in the rain.

Skurge 06-24-04 11:20 PM

I had 712's on my teg and now I have 711's on my pro5.....the 712's grip much better on dry pavement.....but on wet the 711's are a lot better

rex4x 06-28-04 10:09 PM

711s' are decent for the money, there is no other Z rated tire in that size for cheaper.. read the reviews on tirerack.com to get an idea of what to expect, but for the money its a good buy
