Kosei K1's bending??

I'm looking into getting some K1's later this summer but I was talking to a friend out in Raleigh and he said some of his DSM friends that run them have had them bend fairly easily. I'm a poor college kid saving every penny and I don't want weak wheels.

Has anyone had this problem?

I ran the Kosei K1 Racing wheels in 8.5 x 16 with 245/45-16 Hoosier Motorola Cup tires. The Koseis are light for 8.5 x 16 at 16 lbs. They're meant for racing only, and probably would be susceptible to bending if used on the public roads. IME, I never had a problem with bending during my time with the Kosei K1s.

Ok, well I want something that I could use on the street. If I keep my eyes out for holes ect.. do you think these would be ok?

SleepR1 04-08-02 05:46 PM

they might be, but if you never plan to race on the track, I'd get something stronger like an SSR Integral A2. they're semi solid forged making them lightweight and strong...

Well, I do autocross too, and I wanted something that would work for both that and daily driving. I've got a set of t2 rims and they are too heavy. I weighed just the rim and it was right around 26lbs.

if you get a large enough side wall on the rubber , i donot think that you will have a problem with the kosi k1's. i was thinking about getting some for my first gen, and i know a guy with a miata that has them. i have not heard of him having any problems.

SleepR1 04-08-02 08:45 PM

Yeah, if you have a 15 x 7, with tall sidewalls you MIGHT be ok...depends on how stiff the tire's sideall is...

Xentrix 04-08-02 09:48 PM

well i am looking at the 16x7.5's with either 225/50 or 215/50's for the front and the 16x8.5's in the back with the same or larger. Would those take the shock?

SleepR1 04-10-02 09:08 AM

Yeah they should be ok...depends on your tire sidewall stiffness...Hoosiers and BFG R1As are very, very stiff, while the Kumho V700 and A032s are softer sidewalled.

Good luck!

Xentrix 04-10-02 09:30 AM

Ok, well I'm planning on running street tires on my setup.

SleepR1, have you heard anything about Volk Racing GR-C's? I might have found a deal on them but I can't get any info on strength ect...

SleepR1 04-10-02 11:05 AM

Well that should be ok...just don't go running over curbs and such;)

Haven't hear of the GR-Cs...I'm out of touch when it comes to the latest and greatest, as I'm no longer in the market for new wheels and tires:)

Good luck!

Yeah, a guy on the forum has a set. 16x7 front 16x8 rear. They look pretty cool but I'm torn between those and the Kosei's. Both are light and around the same price.

SleepR1 04-10-02 11:26 AM

Damn, those are hideous-looking...they remind of the Stern Face II Beasts!

Pumped 04-10-02 04:49 PM

damm those volks are ugly, especially if they are going to be 16 inch imo

RETed 04-10-02 07:42 PM

Ray Volks Racing Group-C's - these are CLASSIC old-school Japan rims for the FC.&nbsp You guys are too stuck on 18's or bigger rims on all the latest trends designs... :p:

Gene 04-10-02 10:55 PM

Woah, you can get volks for the price of a set of kosei's? Kosei's are CHEAP.... I know they aren't forged volks, but they're still badass

Xentrix 04-10-02 11:55 PM

Well I guess it's all gonna come down to how fast my paycheck from school gets here....

Gene 04-11-02 09:05 AM

Someone tell me where to buy those volks! please!

SleepR1 04-11-02 09:38 AM

Rishie should be able to get any Volk Racing wheel, just send him a PM at ARD T2

RETed 04-11-02 08:53 PM

Any of the Group-C variants are all discontinued.&nbsp They are either used or NOS.&nbsp They are harder to get every year.&nbsp Good thing is that there were a LOT of them sold, so there are lots in the secondary used rim market...
