I've got $2K to spend on wheels, what should I get?
I am thinking something along the lines of hyperblack or gun metal, 5 spoke.......18 X 8 for my 93 Touring VR.
I don't really care what brand but I prefer Japanese marques to "keep it in the family". There is SO much out there, and after spending 6 months researching my last set I can't bear the thought of looking again. (It's an insurance settlement so I MUST spend all the money....) Your opinion IS appreciated!:D (EVEN if I don't like it!) |
Check Braid 3 piece wheels. I am ordering The SEPANG split five spoke in 17x10, and 17x12 black powdercoat. 2045.00 delivered. Yours should be a fraction of that. I think the Blitz 03 is the shit... Why such a small wheel? With your cash you can buy 9s, and 10s. They will fit no problem with the correct offset. Carl Byck

yeah my vote it the blitz 03
|
Thanks guys, I'll check 'em out. Anyone else?;)
|
I am not a big fan of Blitz wheels because of their weight.. taken from wheelweights.net
Blitz Type 03 18X8 - 22.5lbs Blitz Type 03 18X9 - 26.8lbs What about Volk LE37T? They are six spoke instead of five, but hey have gunmetal centers with brushed lip. I have LE37K on my car and I get more compliments on the wheels than the car itself. My rears are 18X9.5 and weigh ~17lbs. Volks will push your budget to the max, but that is what you want right? :) Matt |
Matt's Volks are tight. I have Volks as well. I was originally go get buy Works Mesiter S1's with a colored center to match my white paint. I have a thread in here with the colors. Both will run you well over $2k though. 18x8's? ...go with 18x9's and run 255's. Call Rishie and see if he can hook you up.

A set of 18x9 SSR GT-1s is $1636+shipping from the tire rack. They only weigh 18-1/2 lbs or so in that size. Get the +45 offset and run 255/35 18s.
I forget if Rishie carries the SSR line or not. Otherwise, give Rishie a call and he'll hook you up with some Volks. Yet another option, if you want to push the limits and you have coil-overs, is a set of CCW wheels. You could go 18x9,18x10 or all 18x10s.....for about $1900. Albeit the CCW's don't have the "bling" factor like the SSR's or some of the Volks. |
Ron,
wheels aren't Ghetto mods...what are you doing? j/k Check out the pics here: http://photos.yahoo.com/jpandes in the rx7 pics folder. All pics of 5 spoke wheels on Rx7's there. |

Kinda groovin' on all the SSR stuff.......who is Rishie?
I'm really into the deep dish look, and weight IS a big consideration. 18 lbs would be awesome. If I didn't already have a good set of 18" tires I would probably go back to 17'. I'm thinking gun metal or hyperblack centers with a polished rim........ The search continues.....thanks guys for all your input. |
I had looked into the Volk GT7s for my VR. They're pretty new, so its hard to find info on them. I decided against them b/c of cost, but I think they are within your budget. Get the gunmetal spokes with the polished lip. That would look really nice.
look here besides, they're new, so you'll be the first one on your block to have them! oh, Rishie is ARD_T2. PM for the wheel hookups. Hes got his own subforum somewhere (I think under the wheel and tire for sale section) |
Just let me know what you want. Your budget is pretty workable just depends on your functions. As indicated above the Blitz are beautiful but heavy. They are manufactured by Enkei Japan and are a good wheel. however for that kind of money I would buy a Volk.
Rishie |
You need to check www.braidwheels.com Especially if you like a big lip. They will build the wheel with max lip if you want. There are pics of all these options on their site. They will run you a little more than the CCWs, but they are beautiful, with a dozen or so styles, full powder coat (or just centers)any color if you wish at no extra charge. You can get a stainless, or aluminum outer lip, chrome shadow, exposed, semi-concealed, or concealed bolts. basicly they have more options than any company I've ever seen, They will do custom engraved center caps(rotor design), and they keep a blueprint of your wheel on file so if you ever damage, or want to change any dimension of the wheel, you simply call them, and tell them what you need. JTMotorsport in SoCal has been selling them for six years private label for their widebody bmw, porsche, and volkswagen applications. Look at the sepang if you like the 03, it is a similar look. I will post pics of my black 17x10,17x12 black sepangs in about 4-5 weeks when they arrive. They were 2045.00 delivered in that size. Check it out, Carl Byck

Check it out, Carl Byck I have seen some incredibly bad tooling come from Spain in the last few years. Not saying that they are inferior, I only see the really good stuff coming from Japan, Germany, and once in a great while - the good ol' US of A. But then again I don't know **** about wheels, and that's why I'm asking! Thanks. |
Well let's hope that all those 200,000 dollar ferraris in their photo section were right, and the tooling is good. As I mentioned earlier there are a few stateside tuners selling these wheels private label. For my 2000.00 budget, my choice was basicly CCW, or Braid. I have spoken to a couple of RX7 guys that purchased them, and were very pleased, we shall see, if I'm wrong it would be an expensive mistake as they are custom made to order. Carl

i love it when people mention SSR, because I get to post my pic :D
http://www.jimagu.com/tinou/revitup_lexus/DSC00254.JPG I like the SSR Comps also. Can't really go wrong with Volks. 2k w/o tires is plenty to work with. |
For that much you could get the BBS RG-Rs...

My suggestions.
Volk LE28N's or HP Racing EVO's Good luck Ron. |
Well, it looks like the Volk LE37T's, gunmetal with diamond cut rim.:boink: Light is right.
Thanks for the suggestions |

Thanks for the suggestions https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=175675 It says pick up only (I don't know where you live Ron), but he may change his mind if you don't live in driving distance. Or just give Rishie your business. :) And take some pics when you get them mounted. :p: |
How about the Gram Light 57Pro's. 17x9

Yeah, I agree with rynberg, SSR GT1s in 9 x 18 all around with 45-mm offsets, 255/35-18 tires. Actually I'd do ttb's setup and do 9 x 17s with 255/40-17 tires. Loving the GT1s, @ 18 lbs each, and under $400 each. Even comes in the "SleepR1" fitment LOL :)
