Its finally Time to buy my first set of rims what to do?
10 years of owning the car and at last im changing my 17x7 wheels(original owner put these on and i just never changed it)
So far the only thing that has caught my eye good while ago are the Work Emotions CR Ultimate Unless there are others within the price range of that that looks pretty good if anyone has recommendations .. now what i was looking for/wanted was 9 in the front and 9.5 in the back but it seems that if i go with 17s they only go 7-8-9 in width. and in 18s they go by 8.5 - 9.5 -10.5 .. not sure if i should go with 18s or 17s here is their sizing guide http://www.workwheelsusa.com/media/w...LT_2013_v1.pdf whats the pros and cons about the size besides $$ for tires?? will having 18s have the tire even closer to the fender to rub? So now a little about what id like to do with the car. ... i had my first auto x a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it and plan to do it again, maybe eventually bring it onto a track, but for now its autox and street use. im not super low or slammed, (just about the 25inch ride height) i was watching this video and most of these 7s run about the same size tire on a 17inch rim (not sure about the rim width size though) and was curious why. also not sure about offset size.. i know what offset is just dont know what i would need or how to tell. thank for those who help this wheel noob out. |
Open to other rims in the same price range.

just saw the PF01 EVO, man im having second thoughts on the works now

My take for what its worth
!7,s give the best all round performance 18,s give you bigger options for brakes and wide tires when your at the track when your making lots of hp OR.....18,s give you bling b/c they look like race car I take no responsibility for the information given herein, this information is based mostly on fiction parking lot banter and video games and is possibly worthless, just because I have a 10 years on this forum it means diddly squat. |
I think the reason they're on 17s is the vid is kinda old. My experience with my 17x10s is tire choices for 18s are much better once you go past 245 width or so.
If I were you, I'd lurk the classified here for a set of real wheels - Volk, Work, BBS, Fiske, CCW, etc, and not knock offs like Rota, Axis, Tenzo...lol, or pretty much anything you see at the MSF forums rolling on. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to wheels. The old saying when buying wheels is this: Cheap, Lightweight, Strong. Pick two. |
I decided on the enkei pf01 evos... now what would be better? 9 in the front with 9.5 In the rear or 9.5 all around.... I'm looking for a more functional rim setup for when I auto cross and track the car.
Prob going to need suggestions on tire size aswell as the offset. .. I know there is a calculator someone made but I don't understand it to well. Here is the sizing for it http://enkei.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/PF01EVO.pdf |
I went with a square set up so I can rotate my tires and save a few bucks in the long run.
For the 18x9.5 (114.3x5), the +45 offset looks best. Those Roars are pretty cool/rare... https://www.rx7club.com/wheels-tires...-sale-1080008/ |
Got any pics of the setup on the car. I do better with visuals. .. also I thought a wider tire needs a lower offset..guess I was wrong...
. I was thinking about a square setup but i thought i read everyone saying you want a little stretch which helps with grip or something |
It's true that the FD is a little tail happy when it finally lets go, but you can take care of that with an alignment and/or a front swaybar. :) My old wheels were 17x8 and 9 with tires that got loud when they needed to be rotated (BFG KDWs). I never got to rotate 'em because they weren't all the same size.
I don't have any pics of those Works on the car, I was just checking the classifieds and thought those looked pretty cool with the concave. lol after my little song and dance, the wheels I pointed out are staggered. :weedpoke: |
So I decided to go with 18s.. I have 17s now so figured to go up a step... only thing I have to figure is 18x9 front and 18x9.5 rear or 18x9.5 all around.. along with offset
|
I would do a square setup. 18x9.5 all around +45 is a known safe setup.
|
value - 17x10 +38 255/40/17
Performance 18x10, 18x10.5, 18x11 Offset depends on size of wheel selected. less wide and less tire means more offset selection. I chose the wider option for better performance. The wider the wheel the better performance, especially with the front wheels. Square set ups work well with balance and rotation of tires, etc. So the question is, what do you want? and will the fenders be rolled? |
if +45 is safe then what would be just a little less safe? id like it to be slightly aggressive/ flush (is that the same thing?) , i dont mind if i have to roll the fenders slightly
|
So I just placed the order in with a friend of mine. And man did I get a pretty sweet deal. Pf01 Evo 18x9.5 +45 offset.. one place I searched said they were back ordered for 8 weeks... Friend said they should be here monday!
|
Congrats!
The lower the offset the more the wheels will poke out. |
Nice wheels!
The wheel won't be super flush because of the narrow width, but because of the correct offset you can run any width tire that will physically fit on the wheel without issue. If you do want the wheel more flush to the fender edge and you are running a narrower tire (like a 255/35-18) you can always put a 15mm bolt on spacer to "flush it out" or a bolt on 20mm spacer to "hella flush it out" or a bolt on 30mm spacer to "stance it out". |

Call Spencer a Guerilla Racing. I just bought Advan GT in Hyper Black. 18x8.5 +38 Front, 18x9.5 +45 Rear. The car kept stock, no rolling of the fenders.
