How will these wheels work (FD3S)?

I have a 93 FD and I found some BBS Lm wheels. Front is 18x8 + 40 Offset and Rear is 18x9 + 40 offset. I'm wondering if it will fit right? Does anyone have any pics of that fitment?

What's the right fitment for you?

scribo 02-12-13 07:49 PM

They will fit without fender mods.

purerx7 02-12-13 09:02 PM

That will fit just fine, however the rear 18x9 limits how wide of a tire you can run.

GoodfellaFD3S 02-12-13 10:41 PM

What's the price on them? I wouldn't shell out too much.... LMs tend to be pricey, but at those widths they're a bit 'eh.'

ZDan 02-12-13 11:42 PM

Those will work, no prob. I'd probably go with 225/40 fronts with 255/35 rears. Could go as wide as 245/35 fronts, 275/35 rears (which might require a roll).

Exidous 02-13-13 12:39 AM

I used to have some volks that were 18x9.5+38 in the back on some 275/35 tires and they JUST barely fit without any roll. You'd be fine with the 275/35 and the +40 for the back. The front will have no issues.

do you really want 18x8 and 18x9? stock FD wheels are 16x8 , i know big wheels and small tires look good from a side view but when you get behind and thats what most ppl see when your in a FD is the back side of your car you dont really wanna see small skinny tires you wanna see wide BIG mean looking tires that could eat your hole family!!!!! .. i may be getting a bit carried away ,

my question is why not maybe shop around a bit more , get something wider with some more grip to it and maybe some fitment , simple roll on your fenders and your done .

all and all its the look that best suits you and what you really want and the look of the car you like the most , this is just my 2 cents

Exidous 02-13-13 01:24 AM

I fit some 255's on my 17's and they are enough in the front. At a 180 tread ware of course. The back needs more certainly.

Still_Ridin_Clean 02-16-13 08:50 AM

I ended up getting them. Now I just have to find the biggest tire I can go. Thanks everyone

GoodfellaFD3S 02-17-13 12:23 AM

If you don't mind a 'bulgey' sidewall and squirmy turn in, 245/35 and 275/35 will fit on those widths.

Realisticly, 225/40 and 255/35 will fit (and look) better.

Kiku 02-18-13 11:49 AM

if you got a good price on them, just have them rebarrelled to wider widths. Problem solved.

ZDan 02-19-13 04:49 PM

As mentioned above, 245 fronts and 275 rears will fit.

I'm running Pilot Super Sports in those widths on 8.5" front and 9.5" rear wheels, and honestly a little more bulge wouldn't bother me at all. I wouldn't personally have any qualms about running those tire widths on 8" and 9" wheels if you want max tire width.

Still_Ridin_Clean 04-09-13 05:14 AM

So I'm going with 245/25 front 275/35 rear. I want it to bulge over the rim a little bit to protect it. I hope it looks good. Now I just need to find the brand tire

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Still_Ridin_Clean 12-30-13 01:08 PM

I'm finally getting around to buying tires. Are the Michelin Super Sports a good tire? best choice?

ZDan 12-31-13 10:56 AM

Probably the best-performing tires in the real world, on the street, in warm weather (there are better tires for track/autoX).

They aren't cheap, though...

If $$$ is a factor, you might go with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 in 235/40-18, 265/35-18 ($678 at Tire Rack vs. $968 for PSS in 245/275). Or Bridgestone S-04 in either 235/265 or 245/275.

Don't buy anything without knowing something about how the specific make/model tire performs! Check out customer survey results and more importantly TEST results at TireRack.com

If outright ultimate dry grip and handling are the biggest priority, Dunlop Direzza ZII would be the way to go.

I know I said I was going to buy the super sports. I'm still trying to finish my ls swap. I still didn't get around to buying tires. The car is mainly going to be a weekend warrior and occasional strip. What's the best tire for street and strip? Anyone have any good results from the super sports? I live in florida. I don't plan on driving it in the rain but I don't want a tire that will slide around if I get caught in a downpour while I'm out.

Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position tires.

They are pretty sticky and should last you a while with their 280 UTQG rating. It's like having a track tire with plenty of grooves and sipes for when the rain comes. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for a couple of years and would drive up to Pettit Racing in west palm quite often so I know how you feel about the rain.

I can confirm, I was hurricane season.
