How Practical is Low Profile
I know I've posted this subject in the past but last time I received a very mixed bag of replies so I thought I would throw it out there again. O.K., here's the question:
I'm considering running 18" wheels on my FD. The tire setup would be as follows: (F) 235/40/18 (R) 265/35/18. This translates into sidewall heights of about 3.7". Is this too low profile to really be practical (i.e., rim damage from the occassional pothole etc.)? On a reassurring note, this is the stock 18" option setup for 911's. Any feedback would be much appreciated... PS: My usually driving area is anywhere between San Diego and San Jose... |
I have been running 235/40-18 and 275/35-18 for over a year and a half with no problems on the street. I am using SSR Integrals with Yokohama AVS Sports. Here is shot of the rear tires http://www.dozer.com/hood/right%20rear.JPG

Hey Snipe the tires have been great. I have over 10k on them and the still look new, well almost. To get a good idea of the tread pattern check the review of them on Tirerack.com The did a max performance tire reveiw and the AVS sports were the best in the dry, and second behind the S-02 in the wet. I will try to get a sidewall pic for you but it may be sometime yet before I can do that. But I do HIGHLY recommend the AVS Sports.

See if this pic helps.

Thats the exact setup I have on order right now. I plan to run 18" Volk TE37's with 235/40 , 265/35 in either a Toyo T1S or Yokohama AVS sport.
How are the AVS Sports treating you? How many miles do you have on them, how fast do they wear, how sticky are they, and can you give me a good pic that shows the tire sidewall and tread pattern? In the Midwest it's different. My friends with 18's replace tires every year and a half.
