How to know if "Hard Suspension" for brake pads

I am looking for some new brake pads and everyone keeps asking me "standard or hard suspension". How do I tell and what are they talking about?

Is there a diff in the size of the pad, or just the makeup of the pad?

TIA

if you have the 4 pistons calieprs, you have the 'hard' or 'heavy duty' suspension.
